Ah To the Beautiful You, still looking cute there! We’re a week out from the scrum next Wednesday when Beautiful You premieres along with Arang and the Magistrate. To say the two dramas are as different from each other as night and day is an understatement, plus Gakistal is still around since it got an extension, which makes the ratings … Continue reading →
Episode 5 of Rich Man, Poor Woman was like a brief respite from all the action that was episode 4, and a much needed breather before the coming maelstrom that is episode 6 (based on the previews). I like this episode because it took Hyuga and Makoto out of Tokyo and interacting outside of Next Innovation. They are still working … Continue reading →
Yay, my favorite TW-director is back with a new drama! Director Winnie (Qu You Ning), after most recently helming the critically acclaimed ratings success In Time with You starring Ariel Lin and Bolin Chen, has been tapped to adapt popular modern C-novel Tiny Time 1.0 by writer Guo Jing Ming. The extremely good looking large cast assembled in Shanghai this … Continue reading →
Is anyone’s head spinning with how fast Asahina appears to have gone to the dark side? It’s like one moment he was all “lalala, I’m the bestest #2 ever in this world!” and then suddenly he’s all shifty and plotting Next Innovation domination. Simply because Sakaguchi called him a cowardly douchebag? I thought he would have known that already. Look, … Continue reading →
The Chinese characters initially chosen for the drama Faith was The Godlike Healer/The Great Healer (神醫), back when the drama was focusing on the time traveling doctor in question and had gone through two leading men in Lee Jun Ki and then Kang Ji Hwan. After a year hiatus and then resuming production with this new cast, the PD has … Continue reading →
Ariel Lin is one of those magnetic actresses that always leads to people shipping her in real life with her leading men. Most notably being Joe Cheng after they did It Started with a Kiss, or Hu Ge after they did Legend of the Condor Heroes 2008, or Mike He after Love Contract, and most recently with Bolin Chen after … Continue reading →
It’s been years since a weekend K-drama hooked me, and maybe May Queen will buck that trend. It’s not that I don’t like family dramas with a good dose of makjang, I’m just always running around on weekends and new episodes sorta slip through the cracks until I dang forget about it. Going up against the piano-playing makjang Five Fingers … Continue reading →
It was the best kind of surprise to have two of my great loves collide over the weekend. What’s even more perfect is that the collision actually produced exhilarating results. A good idea can be remade if something different is added to the mix, and the TW-drama Miss Rose is remaking the K-drama City Hall with a twist. It doesn’t … Continue reading →
Everything about the upcoming Haeundae Lovers is just weird. I don’t mean bad, just odd and hard to wrap my mind around. It seems so slapstick and silly, yet it could be good if done right because you have one prosecutor who loses his memory and thinks he’s a gangster and falls in love with the daughter of a mob … Continue reading →
I swear, the more I see of Love Actually starring Lee Da Hae, Joe Cheng, and Li Yi Feng, the more it gives me Sunny Happiness vibes. Aside from Feng Feng being in both dramas, I’m feeling this lighthearted sweetness plus tons of sparkling chemistry amongst the leads. The similarity increased even more after listening to both the opening credit … Continue reading →
It’s not often that a drama catches me off guard, since prior to airing I’ve read up on the characters and the story so I know what to expect. To say episode 2 of Miss Rose literally tossed me under a bus and then rolled over me a few more times for good measure would be an understatement. Once the … Continue reading →
Brain. Hurt. I’m glad that C-dramas mostly drive me batty or ragey and I quickly pull the plug on ones that looked promising but still ended up being a turd. Another reason to eschew C-dramas is the continued regulatory strong arming done by the State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT) in setting down increasingly restrictive broadcasting rules. Earlier they … Continue reading →
Some of my all-time fave dramas are Japanese doramas. I’ve been watching J-doramas since the early 90s, when I was a wee lass (okay, not so wee, but definitely still a lass), and following this bandwagon has been a bumpy ride. When its good, the ride was exhilarating. When its been blergh, it feels like an interminable period of uninteresting … Continue reading →
