Why? For the sanity of Koala, why? WHY? I can keep typing the same word over and over for the rest of the post. Seriously. Why? Doramas, you are officially on my shit list this Summer. Sometimes the lack of knowledge is a blessing, because I just discovered that Fuji TV is remaking its own blockbuster drama just four years … Continue reading →
Magnificent. Beautiful. Stunning. What the heck was W Korea doing publishing the stills of Lee Min Jung and Jang Geun Seok’s Cartier Bague photoshoot first before the actual CF movie was released? The stills do not do this CF justice, which I found simply sublime, quiet and introspective, desolate yet immersive. To say I loved the full 6-minute CF is … Continue reading →
It’s hard for me to describe exactly why I’m fascinated by Material Queen, but I do understand why it’s not a ratings juggernaut that the same directing-writing-acting combo of Autumn’s Concerto was. The dazzling directing finesse and cinematography aside, it’s just so odd of a drama. There is very little hook – it’s like reading a novel transposed onto a … Continue reading →
Spy Myung Wol with Eric and Han Ye Seul premieres next week and I’m thrilled to have something that straddles multiple genres – a comedy screwball romance with spy hijinks. The only thing I worry about is execution, since everything else really strikes my fancy. Looking forward to Monday and a new K-drama to spazz about if it turns out … Continue reading →
I’m so happy I looked beyond my general preconceived notions of TW idol dramas and went into Drunken to Love You with a very relaxed mindset. It’s such a mellow drama, but one where each hour spent with it just fills me with a sublime feeling of contentment. I’m at a point where I’m not rushing Xiao Ru anymore, because … Continue reading →
I really do not follow awards shows, except to check out the fashion, because frankly it’s all pointless and mostly backdoor manuveuring at the end of the day. But I like them for pure entertainment purposes (pretty people, shiny things, me likey). MNET 20 is the only Summer awards show in Korea, intended to be nothing but a popularity contest … Continue reading →
After the blockbuster success of Painted Skin in 2008 (starring Chen Kun, Zhou Xun, Zhao Wei, Donny Yen, and Sun Li) the director is once again digging into the classic book of Chinese supernatural folktales from whence the Painted Skin story originated. His follow-up movie will premiere at the end of September 2011 – it is called Painted Wall (English title Mural), … Continue reading →
There is a time and place for everything, and this adage is especially true of dramas. Even the best dramas can fail to connect with a viewer if watched at an inopportune time, when the mind or the heart isn’t in it for whatever reason. Hunan Television’s decision to air the long-completed Sunshine Angel starring Wu Zun and Rainie Yang … Continue reading →
I promise this will be my last Lie to Me post. Oh hell, who am I kidding? I do, however, need to give myself kudos for at least trying to regain a semblance of drama-watching sanity when it comes to other offerings. Turns out I wasn’t the only blogger mad about LTM, Michael (who did sublime recaps for Secret Garden … Continue reading →
I brought two cut scenes from Mary Stayed Out All Night in an earlier post here, but now I’m bringing the remainder of the scenes that were not shown in the broadcast but added back later for the Director’s Cut edition of the M3 DVD. To be honest it’s not absolutely necessary that these scenes were added, but every little … Continue reading →
This man simply does not rest for a single minute. One of the hardest working, and most talented, actors in Korea is undoubtedly Jang Hyuk. The breadth and depth of his acting resume is a sight to behold. Not every project works, but he always stays on top of the fray and comes out teflon hard. While I didn’t like … Continue reading →
We’ve got a casting confirmation guys! It completely caught me off guard actually, because I’ve been waiting for confirmation about whether my Heon oppa would be coming back to the small screen. Turns out he’s still mulling the script, but maybe this will tip the scales for him. Su Ae (Athena, 9 Ends 2 Outs) has been confirmed as the … Continue reading →
The cast of the upcoming K-movie You’re My Pet had a brief overseas shoot in Japan last month and now the filming moves back to Korea. The movie held an open shoot day for the media that coincided with a rain-required shoot for when Kim Ha Neul’s character first meets Jang Geun Seok’s character. Via a box. He’s a pet, … Continue reading →
