There’s no shame in winning an official popularity awards at any awards ceremony even though even the substantive prizes are highly influence by popularity and/or clout. The 2018 Seoul Awards released its nominations three weeks ago and since then the polls have been open for the public to vote on the winners of the Popularity Award. The vote has ended … Continue reading →
The fans of K-drama Moon Lovers (Bu Bu Jing Xin: Ryeo) have a new treat to check out as leads Lee Jun Ki and IU have reunited to guest star on the variety show Knowing Bros. The structure of the show is set in high school so its adorable to see Jun Ki and IU don high school uniforms, and … Continue reading →
I love the title of K-drama Bok Soo is Back (Revenge is Back) for both its meanings, that male lead Bok Soo has returned to his high school and he’s back for revenge as his name also means. Starring Yoo Seung Ho, Jo Boa and Kwak Dong Yeon, the drama will take over the Mon-Tues slot after Where Stars Land … Continue reading →
I was already looking forward to upcoming tvN drama Memories of Alhambra for leads Hyun Bin and Park Shin Hye, but the excitement has increased with the reveal of more substantive elements of the drama. The second set of preview teasers dropped this weekend and with it a heightened aura of mystery painting this drama in shades of noir rather … Continue reading →
Consider me pleasantly surprised and now even more excited for 2019 period C-drama Records of the Southern Mist House. I already loved the bookish and lyrical title, taken from the same name manhua that is the original source of the story, plus an addition layer of nostalgia for the Republic era setting, so feeling pumped after a great first teaser … Continue reading →
Now that Dramafever has shut down where can diehard K-drama addicts get their fix online now. Until fans waxed nostalgic about mysoju.com in my Dramafever shut down post I had totally forgotten about that site which offered aggregated K-drama viewing in the early Hallyu days without official licensing but also because the Big Three Korean networks hadn’t yet gotten around … Continue reading →
This seems like a J-dorama that would work in a K-drama adaptation, but of course casting and execution will be key to capture the quirky vibe of the original. Cable network jTBC will adapt hit J-dorama Legal High into a K-drama scheduled for early 2019 airing after Sky Castle. The original starred Sakai Masato and Aragaki Yui as lawyers with different … Continue reading →
While C-ent has been popping out good news this week with marriage announcement and maybe baby as well as wedding speculation, K-ent went down two tabloid muckraking rabbit holes the opposite direction. First up is a tabloid report that recently married actor Jo Jung Seok cheated on longtime girlfriend and now wife Gummy with former SPICA member Yang Ji Won. … Continue reading →
It’s a LA kinda mood for K-actress Kim So Hyun and actually fits her vibe to the T. She’s in the pages of the October edition of Nylon Korea in an Umbro branded pictorial showcasing the brands athleisure wear including the ubiquitous in South Korea puffy down jacket. This pictorial with the washed out colors and gritty urban backdrop is … Continue reading →
For the last few years I’ve felt an end of an era is coming premonition, as domestic ratings for K-dramas kept on falling 6 years straight and the original K-drama fanatics during the early Hallyu era all dissipated as excitement seemed to slack. But the international viewers seemingly grew as K-dramas mainstreamed due to the official licensing at streaming sites … Continue reading →
If some pictorials and/or the star modeling in them are oft criticized for delivering images that all look the same, the latest Cosmopolitan Korea spread with K-actress Kim Yoo Jung avoids that critique completely by having every picture be unique. From her body pose, head position, and facial expression, she’s channeling a wide-range of visuals that capture her acting talents … Continue reading →
This actually looks interesting and may be the first office-based K-drama I’ve checked out in awhile. KBS is readying Feel Good to Die (Happy if You Died) to take over the Wed-Thurs time slot from The Ghost Detective and will serve up a dish of revenge best served everyday. Apparently the premise is that Kang Ji Hwan‘s arrogant horrible boss … Continue reading →
The glitterati of K-ent was out in full force this week at the VIP movie premiere for gritty zombie sageuk movie Rampant (Outbreak) starring Hyun Bin and Jang Dong Gun. Adapted from a manhwa, the movie follows Crown Prince attempting to fight his way through what appears to be a zombie spread among the Joseon populace, and may be orchestrated … Continue reading →
