This is the weekend after Thanksgiving and those in the US are likely to be still full and working off the after effects of too much food and booze. Even when trying to be healthy it’s hard during the holiday seasons so it’s especially inspiring to see someone healthy and happy even when lugging around an extra person. Pregnant K-actress … Continue reading →
Wahhhhh it’s finally here! The first teasers are here for tvN‘s year ending high profile fantasy drama Hwayugi (English title A Korean Odyssey) by the Hong Sisters and based off the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. This is either going to be the best capper to a relatively meh 2017 K-drama year or a fire ball explosion hot mess way … Continue reading →
I’m not going to assume this is a shotgun wedding since the couple in question could have been planning to get married all along but it certainly probable more so than other couples in recent years getting married. K-actress Park Han Byul has announced that she is four months pregnant and also registered her marriage to a non-celebrity hubby. She’s … Continue reading →
One unfortunate outfit for a star is enough for media to write a post about, but to do it in four successive events is quite a feat and my beloved Ha Ji Won did just that in Taiwan this week. Ha Ji Won was in Taipei to promote upcoming C-movie Manhunt directed by John Woo with her having a supporting … Continue reading →
I’m so relieved Moon Geun Young is all recovered from her health scare earlier this year and is ending the year on a high note, with the release of her indie movie Glass Garden and rather light promos on her schedule now that the Busan Film Festival is over. Her latest pictorial for The Big Issue hits all the right … Continue reading →
I’m still loving OCN fantasy thriller drama Black, showcasing the best drama performance I’ve seen from male lead Song Seung Heon and a truly creative and addictively confusing script. It’s basically God’s Gift: 14 Days, the previous drama by screenwriter Choi Ran, mixed up with dark and twisty supernatural elements of grim reapers and the mythology of death. But like … Continue reading →
The combination of Lee Dong Wook and a cold winter beach fits perfectly into the Esquire ethos, and comes at a great time to remember Lee Dong Wook’s now most famous drama role. There may be a new grim reaper in town with Song Seung Heon doing a solid and smexy job in OCN drama Black, but Lee Dong Wook … Continue reading →
No one would consider 18 years the blink of an eye but somehow it feels that way when told that Taiwanese actress-singer Rainie Yang just celebrated her 18th year in the entertainment industry. She debuted in 1998 but didn’t really hit the limelight until a supporting role in Meteor Garden, and her career truly has surpassed that of MG’s female … Continue reading →
It’s the start of Thanksgiving long weekend here in the US but in South Korea it’s not a holiday weekend but there was a palpable lack of exciting new fare almost like a break. MBC‘s long delayed new rom-com I am Not a Robot continued into week 3 of not premiering yet but will finally reach the small screen next … Continue reading →
I’m still not sure what to expect from upcoming KBS romantic melo-fantasy drama Black Knight, other than all the teasers and promo pictures make it seem like the cast is filming a music video rather than a drama. It harkens back to the overkill visuals of the early Hallyu drama days as pioneered by the seasons dramas, think Winter Sonata … Continue reading →
I do love covering the year end Big Three network K-drama awards ceremony, it’s like a company banquet rewarding high performing employees and another chance to check out red carpet fashion. That’s why I’m genuinely sad that we may only have one year end drama award for 2017 over at SBS, with strike-plagued MBC and KBS announcing today that they … Continue reading →
I feel like SBS Wed-Thurs dramas just blended together as the newly arriving one formerly known as Nothing to Lose but now has the English title of Judge vs. Judge is straight up a continuation of predecessor drama While You Were Sleeping, minus the fantasy element of dreaming about the future. There’s the judicial bench, crimes to be prosecuted, and … Continue reading →
I don’t know if this is much ado about nothing but it’s certainly gotten more attention as the drama airing has gone on for tvN‘s hit rom-com This Life is Our First (Because This is Our First Life). Japanese entertainment has now taken note of similarities of that drama with the hit J-dorama from 2016 We Married as a Job … Continue reading →
