The long lag time between the publishing of fantasy C-novel Once Promised by writer Tong Hua in 2011 to when the drama adaptation A Lifetime Love is hitting the small screens has lowered excitement but also expectations. I’m not peeved that the final cast of Huang Xiaoming and Victoria Song may not have been my choice, I care more that they … Continue reading →
This casting is certainly eye brow raising for reasons that will entail a bit of poking fun at the leads. K-net is reporting that upcoming cable network OCN drama Black, which got news coverage last month due to it’s subject matter being about the grim reaper, is courting as leads Song Seung Heon and Go Ara. My first thought wasn’t … Continue reading →
There are few actors or actresses that’s a sure thing to watch and Bolin Chen is on that short list for me. His intensity in performance is always a pleasure even in the most uninspiring of fare, and most of the time he picks wisely in projects that have a story worth telling. His return to drama land for the … Continue reading →
She might not be the live-action Bride of the Water God but she’s certain a goddess in her own right already. Moon Chae Won has fully grown out her hair after chopping it boy length short for Goodbye Mr. Black, her last drama and a woeful misfire in ratings and writing. She has three straight hit dramas before that with … Continue reading →
Taking a period fantasy setting away and moving the narrative into modern times is fraught with peril even if done carefully. Even if it works there will be fans of the original story that miss watching it as the source material presented. I’m on the fence with the upcoming tvN drama adaption of Bride of the Water God. So far … Continue reading →
Good news is better when confirmed fast and this confirmation satisfied my excited appetite for a potentially great onscreen drama pairing. Last night the Chinese drama fans were treated to a drama cast flirting via Weibo that put to rest the leads for the upcoming C-drama adaptation of romance novel Empress Fuyao. C-actress Yang Mi has been cast for a … Continue reading →
It’s always fun to see famous friends supporting each other and Park Shin Hye‘s connection with the boy group CNBLUE goes back a long ways. She did two dramas with Jung Yong Hwa in You’re Beautiful and Heartstrings, and most recently was in Heirs with Kang Min Hyuk. I’m sure she also knows Lee Jong Hyun and Lee Jung Shin … Continue reading →
The eye of the scandal is likely the hardest to withstand as the zero-to-everything scrutiny descends from the media and public alike. T.O.P.’s charges for marijuana use isn’t all that surprising considering there have been more than a few big name K-stars busted for weed in the past, and contrast to the recent sexual based scandals involving many male K-stars … Continue reading →
If you love wedding gawking this come right in because this post is chock full of all the visual happy goodies from a star-studded wedding. Taiwanese actress Ady An tied the knot on June 5th in Hawaii with her businessman fiancee and their wedding was as fun and extravagant as expected. The huge wedding party had lots of Taiwanese actresses … Continue reading →
I don’t have much of an opinion about the sudden casting news around School 2017, but I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for. If casting newbies is what KBS wanted that would be fine but I’m getting whiplash feeling like the network couldn’t even decide which direction it wanted to go. The drama had been … Continue reading →
When one is embroiled in a major scandal where it’s pretty cut and dry that the activity did take place, abject and sincere apology is the best way to go especially in a morally uptight culture like South Korea. Top Hallyu idol group Big Bang‘s member T.O.P. (Choi Seung Hyun) hit the scandal brick wall last week when it was … Continue reading →
It’s June and the start of wedding season, and the first to walk down the aisle for Chinese-speaking stars is Taiwanese actress Ady An. She’s in Hawaii with her businessman fiancee for a wedding extravaganza that kicked off with a huge beachfront pre-wedding party that’s as lavish as a wedding itself. Guests were given goodie bags with tons of beach … Continue reading →
The passage of time doesn’t just dim the memory, it also ushers in fresher events to the forefront. Popular stars can become unpopular if too long passes before another hit, and scandal-plagued stars can usually count on newer scandals to occupy the public mind. In the five years since Park Shi Hoo was embroiled in allegations of sexual misconduct, he’s … Continue reading →
