The Chinese actresses in attendance at the opening night of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival slayed the red carpet as far as I’m concerned. Even minus usual red carpet fixture Fan Bing Bing, the ladies represented led by the glorious Ni Ni, the ethereal Crystal Liu, the elegant Li Bing Bing, and the forever glamorous Gong Li. It was a … Continue reading →
Those suffering from Song Joong Ki and/or Captain Yoo Shi Jin withdrawal, never fret as there is an upcoming dosage in sight! Song Joong Ki makes a return to Running Man, the show that put his name recognition on the map early on in his acting career, but unfortunately it’s not Korean Running Man but instead the Chinese counterpart now … Continue reading →
Marriage becomes Liu Shi Shi like an already beautiful woman getting a slight tweak makeover to add another layer of charm. She’s been a fixture on the Chinese fashion circuit for years since her breakout role with Bu Bu Jing Xin, and for this month’s issue of L’Officiel magazine Shi Shi was photographed in Paris while she was there recently … Continue reading →
If this prime real estate on the side of KBS headquarters is any indication, the network is really really banking big on upcoming summer drama Uncontrollably Fond. It will be entertaining to watch the drama air in the dead muggy summer nights when nearly every expected scene shows the leads wrapped in coats, scarves and jackets, since the drama was … Continue reading →
I never thought I’d see Park Shin Hye in a doctor genre drama, and conversely I’ve wondered why Kim Rae Won hasn’t done one yet since all his generational male colleagues have wielded the scalpel already. Filming started on upcoming SBS Mon-Tues drama Doctors (formerly Female Gangster Hye Jung) last week and now the production has released the script reading stills … Continue reading →
When casting started for MBC fantasy-romance-thriller drama W, it felt so far away and rather nebulous. There might be a bend in the time-space continuum because suddenly the drama is getting a full cast and premiere date is a little over two months away. It’s still plenty of time but this ambitious drama about parallel dimensions suddenly seems real. Starring … Continue reading →
Soon-to-be-married Korean star couple Gu Hye Sun and Ahn Jae Hyun were spotted in Jeju this week for what turns out to be a photo shoot with Marie Claire that will double as their wedding pictorial. When I think Jeju photo shoot I immediately think beaches but the island is also home to plenty of forest greenery, and that’s where … Continue reading →
Gosh, I wish either Hwang Jung Eum wasn’t playing the leading lady role in Lucky Romance, or the genders were swapped in the drama story so the female lead was the cold stoic one. Otherwise it’s three times in a row that poor Hwang Jung Eum is playing what is essentially the same caricature of a spastic woman. Sure the … Continue reading →
Leave it to Korea to mash up 28Â Days Later and Snowpiercer, and then make me salivate to what what is essentially a derivative disaster thriller movie. The teaser is out for this summer’s big budget K-movie Train to Busan, starring my cinematic husband Gong Yoo in one of his most heroic incarnations ever. Train to Busan is about a virulent … Continue reading →
How time flies is a total understatement when it comes to Lee Min Ho. I swear I just saw him for the first time in Boys Before Flowers, and yet it’s been close to 8 years since that drama aired in 2009 and introduced the greater Hallyu world to this talented young man. Sure he’s been hit or miss since then … Continue reading →
Picky is a good thing when it comes to acting projects because there is simply too much detritus out there. With that said, I’m a tad disappointed to hear that Jin Goo has passed on doing the upcoming SBS Wed-Thurs drama Wanted. Maybe the drama isn’t as promising as it sounds, or the role of a dogged detective is too … Continue reading →
I love a good comeback story, especially for the ladies out there who want to keep the faith about second chances career-wise. K-actress Heo Yi Jae may be an unfamiliar name to more recent K-drama converts but in the late 2000s she was a leading lady headlining prime time dramas, most notably in Goong S (where Park Shin Hye was … Continue reading →
There’s been a niggling visual sense of deja vu with upcoming MBC Wed-Thurs drama Lucky Romance. It brings back many reminders of MBC’s unexpected buzzy rom-com last year She Was Pretty, and it’s not just due to both dramas airing on the same network and having the same leading lady in Hwang Jung Eum. She’s sporting the same very short … Continue reading →
