The most exciting thing at the 2018 Korean Dramas Awards was how utterly lackluster it was. Other than veteran Yoo Dong Geun showing up to accept his Daesang and his weekend drama Marry Me Now winning Best Drama, it was an event where I was struggling to find reason why it existed. It felt like the winners were anyone who … Continue reading →
This is a surprising choice of a K-drama to adapt, mostly because the original is deemed nearly perfect and also because it doesn’t seem to fit with the vibe of the adapting countries drama tastes. China will be remaking acclaimed tvN drama My Ahjusshi into a C-drama tentatively with the same title which is My Uncle in Chinese. The synopsis … Continue reading →
The Mon-Tues time slot has way more interesting dramas than the Wed-Thurs period, at least for the month of October thanks to the premiere of three new dramas that all got good reviews. Leading the prime time networks is SBS new arrival Where Stars Land (Fox Star Bride) with 5.9% and 7.2% in its first episode, way higher than the … Continue reading →
When I heard that K-actress Kang Sora was going to cameo in the jTBC drama adaption of The Beauty Inside, I totally thought she was going to play one of the forms that female lead Seo Hyun Jin changes into. Turns out Kang Sora cameos as herself presenting a Best Actress award to fellow top actress character played by Seo … Continue reading →
It’s been nearly a year since K-actress Kim Tae Hee and her actor-singer husband Rain welcomed their first child, a baby girl in October of 2017. Since then he’s had a drama comeback with jTBC police procedural Sketch and it appears Kim Tae Hee may be following suit soon as she just dropped her first post-baby pictorial with Elle Korea. … Continue reading →
I’ve been watching K-dramas over for over a decade and covering the industry via this blog a little less than that, and I can vouch for how difficult, sanctimonious, and exacting the domestic Korean netizens are even more than when the international viewers start chiming in. If I-netz are not feeling a drama, K-netz have already ripped it to shred … Continue reading →
C-netizens may throw salty on actress Yang Mi‘s recently leaked non-retouched photo shoot pictures but they are really missing the point. Her non-retouched pictures show deeper wrinkles and non-porcelain skin but also show a very beautiful woman. Every single star has their released pictorial pictures photoshopped other than tabloid or media event pictures and Yang Mi is no exception. I … Continue reading →
I feel like I can start copying and pasting from my last two drama award nomination posts since it’s the same few drama names, actors, and actresses making the list. The 2nd annual Seoul Awards assembled by Sports Seoul released the list of nominees at the end of last week and this one gives the Daesang to dramas rather than … Continue reading →
It’s a new record for cable channel OCN as it burst out of the ratings gate this Saturday with the first episode of its fun heist drama Player. The first episode was the highest premiere ratings for any drama on the network bringing in 4.474%. That’s higher than its predecessor drama Voice 2 which until now had the highest network … Continue reading →
Like a case of the boy who cried wolf, I’ve said for a few dramas now that it would likely be Lee Jong Seok‘s last before enlisting. And then he goes and does another one, but I figure it’s because he hasn’t received his enlistment papers so why the heck not keep working. Lee Jong Seok will be back on … Continue reading →
What an adorable chance to work together, two of my irrational and handsome as all out K-ent male actor loves will be arriving on my television this Saturday via cable network OCN‘s thriller heist drama Player. The drama stars Song Seung Heon and Krystal leading a band of thieves who steal hidden ill-gotten loot stashed away by other criminals, and … Continue reading →
This lackluster ratings in the prime time drama slot is getting to be such an embarrassment to even cover. Like a normal race but the participants are running three-legged, bumbling around hoping for a miracle that domestic audiences will return to the tube. This week saw two new dramas arrive in the formerly prestigious Wed-Thurs time slot and both feel … Continue reading →
It’s fashion show time (already?) and the first to make the Asian newspaper headlines is the Christian Dior show in Paris where a handful of Asian actresses make their appearance. From South Korea there was quirky Gong Hyo Jin who really fit the bohemian vibe of her dress, and the standout from the smaller than usual C-actress contingent was Angelababy … Continue reading →
