In what might be perfect as a parody project but is instead a serious undertaking, China is capitalizing on the success of the two biggest K-dramas last year by mashing the the two together into a nugget of sure-to-be pure awful. Filming begun last week on a C-movie called Heirs From Another Star (來自星星的繼承者們) which is literally the spliced together … Continue reading →
Now this looks like a great Summer popcorn flick! The first teaser trailer has dropped for the upcoming Korean movie Pirates, which of course garners the immediate association that it’s going to be a Korean version of Pirates of the Caribbean. A bit of yes and no in that connection, yes it has Joseon era pirates but no it doesn’t … Continue reading →
Casting has been confirmed and is complete for the next big sageuk movie to start production shortly. It’s not a new story by any means and the movie Sado will instead be yet another dramatic re-telling of the infamous life of Crown Prince Sado of the Joseon era. There have been plenty of K-dramas dealing with the era in and … Continue reading →
Charismatic ahjusshi loves of mine Jung Woo Sung and Lee Bum Soo in a movie together? SOLD. This movie was filmed towards the end of last year and Lee Bum Soo sported a hand injury while filming Prime Minister and I last Winter due to the intense filming on the set. It was formerly called God’s Trick but now has … Continue reading →
It’s past mid-May which means the full blown Summer movie season is just ramping up in a low key way. Kicking things off a bit early for the K-box office is the Song Seung Heon explicitly-rated affair movie Obsessed. I’ve posted trailers and stills which showcase the heady sexual love obsession the movie title refers to, with Song Seung Heon’s army colonel in … Continue reading →
Ugh, so much NO I don’t even know where to start. I’ll begin by saying my yearly “I miss you” to the much too talented for this world and dearly departed Leslie Cheung on the recent 11th anniversary of his passing. Because I still miss him so much, it feels like such a crock of bullshit to hear that HK … Continue reading →
Japan is the land of mangas and my go-to source for my manga crack fix on a regular basis when dramas aren’t enough to scratch the itch for a good story. Japan has also done a laudable service in transforming its mangas into live-action form whether in doramas or movies and I’m always ready to give them the benefit of … Continue reading →
I find Song Seung Heon a gorgeous specimen of male perfection, so much so I’m willing to shelve my acting requirements and watch him do what he does onscreen. If he calls acting then so be it, I call it “oppa being pretty”. It’s quite a feat to pull off nearly twenty years of acting and still not have a … Continue reading →
You can say I should have totally expected to see this type of poster for the upcoming K-movie Human Addiction starring Song Seung Heon in his first role in a raunchy and racy movie that promises lots of titillating and illicit action. But I’m still taken aback because in my mind I can still see Song Seung Heon playing the … Continue reading →
Oooohhhh, me likes this new project and casting. Hallyu superstar Rain, whose star has dimmed significantly in his own South Korea after some controversy with his military service behavior and for daring to date a smart nice fellow actress like Kim Tae Hee, has steadily continued with his own career since returning from the army last year. He released a … Continue reading →
I’m a casual fan of J-movies which are usually hit and miss for me. I do like their penchant for adapting mangas into movies as well instead of sticking with the longer dorama format. I’ve been keeping an eye out for this movie since it was announced last year but the holiday crush late last year let this one slip … Continue reading →
Hollywood releases its big blockbusters during US holidays but in the Chinese-speaking countries their domestic movie releases follow a slightly different schedule. Lunar New Year is a major movie release period since all schools and jobs are off for weeks on end. The preference during that time to to release comedic movies since it’s a holiday meant to celebrate family … Continue reading →
Time really does lessen the bite of resentment and I’m ready to move on since its been four years since Black & White the drama followed by the awards debacle ending in a movie version with the Black part of the police duo not involved. I was way more invested in the story of Pi Zi (Chen Zai Tian) played … Continue reading →
