It’s been a dismal showing for Chinese movies (Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan) at the Cannes Film Festival this year. The only movie to be invited was director Peter Chan‘s scientific martial arts film Wuxia (武俠), starring Donnie Yen, Takashi Kaneshiro, and Tang Wei. Wuxia had a midnight showing at Cannes two days ago, and all the stars of … Continue reading →
While I love Ha Ji Won and think she is literally a goddess come to life for her amazing breadth of acting roles in her career, I don’t always love her projects, nor automatically watch anything she stars in. This baby, however, I’m totally onboard for. The sure-to-be-a-blockbuster Summer K-movie Sector 7, starring Ha Ji Won, Ahn Seung Ki (also … Continue reading →
May may be a veritable buffet of new K-dramas left and right, but May also means the Summer movie season is about to start (or in Hollywood, it’s already long started two weeks ago). One of the biggest Summer movies in Asian cinema this year is sure to be My Kingdom (Da Wu Sheng 大武生) starring Han Geng, Wu Zun, … Continue reading →
The just wrapped K-movie Chilling Romance, with Lee Min Ki and Son Ye Jin, released a few new stills as the movie enters post-production. Lee Min Ki has a slew of movies either just finished or lined up, so I don’t think we’ll see him back in dramas anytime soon. Neither does it look like Son Ye Jin will leave … Continue reading →
A couple of new pictures have been released of Jang Geun Seok and Kim Ha Neul in pre-production for their upcoming K-movie You’re My Pet. I really hope they style Seok differently, because right now he looks exactly like Kang Mu Gyul, and all I can think is “Mu Gyul is cheating on his Mae Ri – NOOOOO!” Kim Ha … Continue reading →
Vic Zhou (Zai Zai) is currently in Beijing filming a modern TW/C collaboration movie called Cohabiting with Fashion, co-starring Vivian Hsu and HK-actor Alan Tam. Zai Zai plays a white collar employee of a fashion company, and Vivian is a typical hard-working average girl. The movie supposedly depicts how modern young people work hard to make their dreams come true, … Continue reading →
This news article I’m about to summarize is pretty inane, but hidden in the sheer asinine text is one important fact – the mainstream TW-newspapers are beginning to report on Vic Zhou and Wu Zun preparing for their roles in the upcoming HK/C martial arts movie Saving General Yang (which I posted about here). I’m always worried that early casting reports, … Continue reading →
In addition to being Taiwan’s child actor du jour, Xiao Xiao Bin shall henceforth also be known as “the exclusive child to F4”. Having already played Vanness Wu’s son in Autumn’s Concerto, as well as Jerry Yan’s nephew in Down with Love, the much-too-adorable kid is adding a third F4 daddy to his resume (the most coveted F4 daddy if you ask me) by … Continue reading →
The upcoming TW-movie Bad Girl (女孩壞壞) with Ella Chen and Mike He held its pre-production costume fitting and first photo shoot of its two lead actors yesterday. Ella plays a hardscrabble high school student who loves her family, and forms a girl gang called Bad Girls to protect the neighborhood and keep it free of crime. One day a movie … Continue reading →
I’m beginning to suspect things always come in pairs around here. Yesterday I posted about the upcoming The Yang’s Clan movie about the 7 brothers, which is bound to drip in excess testosterone. The Yang’s Clan folktale actually does not end with the death/amnesia/be-a-monk endings which befell most of the Yangs’ brothers. The 7 wives, a mom, and 2 younger … Continue reading →
When I first heard the casting news, I did a double take, and then had to check five times to make sure it wasn’t some elaborate April’s Fools punk. Of course it’s not, and the reality only makes it more surreal since I can’t fathom how much this movie is going to wallow in bromance manpain and the collective pretty. … Continue reading →
The first official still from the upcoming movie Only You, starring So Ji Sub and Han Hyo Joo, has been released. Damn it, if one or more people bite it at the end of this movie, I’m going to be pissed, because I can already tell this movie is going to make me weepy, and I prefer weepy stories to … Continue reading →
To no one’s surprise, since these two guys have been on the frontrunner list for what seems like an eternity now, Lionsgate announced this morning that Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth have been confirmed as the other two leads for the upcoming movie-adaptation of The Hunger Games. One guess which one is Peeta and which one is Gale? Hilariously, every … Continue reading →
