The more I see of the upcoming TVBS drama Boysitter (摩女搶頭婚 translated literally as Modern Woman Snatches First Wedding) the more excited I’m getting. I’m not elevating my expectations too much but the mere thought of a fresh new cast starts things off on the right foot for me. Starring Annie Chen, River Huang, Melvin Sia, and Nita Lei, the … Continue reading →
I’ve been mostly zoned out of TW-dramas lately but this upcoming one merits checking out for the cast and darker story. The CTV drama X Lies (謊言遊戲) also called The Game of Lies pairs up Ella Chen of S.H.E. with one of my fave TW-actors Chris Wu for an incisive and potentially devastating look at the desire for fame. Ella … Continue reading →
After translating thirty-eight dense chapters and following the drama progress for over two years, I think I’m done writing about Da Mo Yao. At least done when it comes to having more opinions about the casting, struggle to get on air, and first peeks at the end product. The upcoming C-drama renamed Sound of the Desert is finally arriving on the small screen … Continue reading →
I’ve been thinking about the most wonderful yet thoroughly depressing to read male leads in Tong Hua novels and she’s done a fantastic job of creating many unforgettable such men. 8th Prince got it bad in Bu Bu Jing Xin since he had the girl until the tides of history kicked him in the arse and she left him rather … Continue reading →
The next SETTV Friday night idol drama has been casting finalized with a fresh new feel. Whether the story is any good we’ll have to wait and see but get ready now for a bunch of different faces to grace the screen. The two male leads have been confirmed with Chris Wang and Lego Lee two months ago but with … Continue reading →
Ain’t nothing this year going to top the upcoming C-drama Heirs From Another Star for hot mess potential. The drama was produced and filmed in what felt like the blink of an eye and is actually arriving in mere hours as it premieres September 19th on the major Chinese video streaming site iQiyi. It was always meant to be an … Continue reading →
I dropped You Light Up My Star early on not for anything particularly wrong with it but finding myself disengaged from the whole proceedings which felt a little but clinical. One great set up bit behind the conflict is where leads Joe Cheng and Janine Chang, who play top actors in the drama, have struck box office gold with their … Continue reading →
The labored production history of the drama adaptation of the Tong Hua romance novel Da Mo Yao (Ballad of the Desert) is best described as potential hot mess meets the boy who cried wolf. The start and stop of when this long completed drama would finally air left me sapped of nearly all interest in it, not to mention I’m … Continue reading →
There’s another intensely rich in story and visuals period C-drama on the horizon and every tidbit that has come out has only looked better and better. With my posting about Hu Ge this week it’s the perfect time to showcase his return to period dramas (some may argue his forte genre) as the lead in the drama-adaptation of the popular … Continue reading →
I’m getting more and more excited with the upcoming SETTV daily drama Love Cheque Charge (Happiness Voucher) starring George Hu, Yuan Ai Fei, and Kun Da. The three leads attended a drama promotional BBQ fan event at SETTV headquarters last week to drum up interest in the drama and consider me interested. The drama also released two new substantive teasers … Continue reading →
I always welcome a good daily drama which feels like an unassuming watch that takes nothing out of me. Commitment is not needed since one can stop and go without missing much, and it’s perfect as treadmill fodder. In the last few years, the best SETTV daily is probably still Inborn Pair while Love, Now started off promising but that … Continue reading →
Was there a writer change in Pleasantly Surprised (Love Myself of You) or what? Otherwise how can one explain why there is a freaking kidnapping plot point coming up based on the just released new stills? Kidnapping? You have got to be kidding me. No offense to an event that does happen in real life and happens frequently in dramas … Continue reading →
It’s fairly certain now that SETTV made an empty promise in an attempt to mine a popular drama for more than it was worth. The network’s popular coming-of-age college drama In a Good Way wrapped up last May with a promise from the network that a movie version was forthcoming to wrap up the drama. That made the open ending more palatable, … Continue reading →
