Man, that is one seriously sexy namja. It feels like forever since I last posted about the deliciously yummy Joseph Chang, the reason being that he’s been busy making movies and hardly playing the media game. We really lucked out that Joseph eschewed his movie star and indie film roots to do Drunken to Love You last year, otherwise who … Continue reading →
Wahhhh, supreme daebak! Episode 5 of Miss Rose easily jumped over a point in ratings and broke 4 to land on 4.35 for the night. This puts MR on track with Office Girls, and with the drama being much more romance focused and less office politics than OG, I think the Taiwan audience is fully onboard this train and can … Continue reading →
My beloved Miss Rose continues to rock and roll after four episodes aired, staying far ahead of the Sunday ratings pack (no other drama broke 1 in ratings while MR maintained a 3.22 for episode 4) that even if its ratings doesn’t continue an astronomical rise like its predecessor Office Girls did, it should still comfortably win its timeslot for … Continue reading →
It sounds like the magic of Miss Rose will soon be available to the non-native Chinese speakers who want to enjoy the cute quippiness of this drama. I’m so happy since so much of what makes this drama fun to watch is hearing Roy Qiu‘s unique cadence as he spit out his lines with this wry exasperation mixed with curiosity. … Continue reading →
The Taipei Film Festival was held in July and once again highlighted talented actors, directors, and producers of the very quirky local movie industry. Normally I don’t pay much attention, except for when one of my favorite TW-actors Joseph Chang winning Best Actor for a bravura performance in Boyfriend Girlfriend (with his co-star Bryan Chang also winning Best Supporting Actor … Continue reading →
Date, date, date! I love how Miss Rose continues to take the most squeeworthy City Hall OTP elements and spinning their own twist on it. Those who have seen CH know that two scenes in MR episode 3 were quite iconic comedic CH scenes. The first was the scene where Cheng Kuan voluntarily pretends to be Si Yi’s boyfriend in … Continue reading →
I’ve got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that the cast of Love Actually has been actively promoting the drama in China, appearing on the popular variety show Happy Camp and doing media events such as a cooking demonstration. All very cute. The bad news is that leading man Joe Cheng has been absent from … Continue reading →
Yay, my favorite TW-director is back with a new drama! Director Winnie (Qu You Ning), after most recently helming the critically acclaimed ratings success In Time with You starring Ariel Lin and Bolin Chen, has been tapped to adapt popular modern C-novel Tiny Time 1.0 by writer Guo Jing Ming. The extremely good looking large cast assembled in Shanghai this … Continue reading →
It’s not often that a drama catches me off guard, since prior to airing I’ve read up on the characters and the story so I know what to expect. To say episode 2 of Miss Rose literally tossed me under a bus and then rolled over me a few more times for good measure would be an understatement. Once the … Continue reading →
Brain. Hurt. I’m glad that C-dramas mostly drive me batty or ragey and I quickly pull the plug on ones that looked promising but still ended up being a turd. Another reason to eschew C-dramas is the continued regulatory strong arming done by the State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT) in setting down increasingly restrictive broadcasting rules. Earlier they … Continue reading →
If Koala had wet dreams, this drama might fit the bill. I’ve been hoarding the official stills for Love Actually starring Joe Cheng, Lee Da Hae, and Li Yi Feng for weeks now, wanting to post about it after the official trailer came out. The trailer has arrived, and oh my goodness was it worth the wait. Minna/Yorobun/Da Jia – … Continue reading →
The Chinese men’s magazine Men’s Uno celebrated its 100th issue recently by publishing a collection of photo shoot pictures from many of the famous male entertainers who have graced its covers in recent years, all with personalized messages and their autographs. It really is a who’s who of the current crop of hot Chinese and Taiwanese actors, but for the … Continue reading →
The drama adaptation of Tong Hua’s Da Mo Yao recently wrapped production after four months of filming, with the cast filming the Chang An scenes first in Heng Dian and then moving to Xiang Shan to film the desert and Xi Yu sequences. At this point I’ve seen all the BTS stills, which are so thoroughly leaked that I’ve pretty … Continue reading →
