There are so many things about Big that turned out to be completely unexpected, in both good and bad ways. This is the least spastic Hong Sisters episode 1 of any of their dramas I’ve ever seen. Other than Lee Min Jung mugging it up as required by her character, everything and everyone else was uncharacteristically mellow and restrained. This … Continue reading →
So before Big started I was all geared to love the doctor-teacher OTP played by Gong Yoo and Lee Min Jung. I figured once Gong Yoo’s doctor swapped souls with his fiancee Gil Da Ran’s high school student Kang Kyung Joon played by Shin Won Ho, it would just be funny hijinks and the romance of the jokey variety until … Continue reading →
Sometimes a drama just whooshes on by and is over before I even realize it. It feels a bit surreal that Queen In Hyun’s Man is over this week, but that’s probably because I started watching it mid-way so the journey is truncated for me. It’s been such an enjoyable ride I’ll be quite sad when it ends, but I … Continue reading →
The filming for the drama adaptation of Secrets Hidden in Time continues to chug along, and I continue to be fascinated by it. I don’t think I’ve ever shipped two leads this hard before the drama even began, but here I am drooling over every new still of Janine Chang and Wallace Chung. This is bizarre, since I’m not a … Continue reading →
Cannes is always a truly international film festival and this year the upcoming Taiwanese period movie Ripples of Desire (Chinese title Hua Yang) premiered its trailer there while two of its four leads showed up to promote the movie. It’s too bad Ivy Chen and Jerry Yan are busy elsewhere because I would have loved to see the entire cast present. … Continue reading →
So apparently Lee Seung Gi did sing a song off The King 2 Hearts OST at his Budokan concert. He sang “Love is Crying”, and right now I’m crying because I couldn’t be there to experience this myself. Universe – you suck, thanxbai! Seung Gi’s Budokan concert went off without a hitch and I’m sure somewhere out there the fans … Continue reading →
I think my motto now should be “ask and you shall receive”, or maybe “have faith”. I’m a huge ArGe shipper, and in the midst of promotions for the upcoming Tangren fantasy RPG wuxia drama Xuan Yuan Jian, the cast was on the variety show Happy Camp and a big bombshell was dropped that just made my year. Since Tang … Continue reading →
It’s no secret I adore Seo Ji Seok. The only reason he’s not more prevalent all over the Playground is due to his predilection for picking projects that either majorly suck (Manny) or are a variety I don’t watch (the sitcom High Kick 3). I’ve resorted to rewatching Gloria or OBGYN to get my Seo Ji Seok fix. He’s not … Continue reading →
Ethan Ruan is three months into his year long mandatory service duty and he’s finished up the one month new soldier orientation training and switched into his post. Because he’s flat footed, he won’t be doing active duty and is instead serving in the Ministry of Education office in Taipei. He’s working on public education campaigns and even uses his … Continue reading →
While discussing the characterization of the yangban du jour Kim Boong Do got me thinking of the perfect yangban to end all perfect yangban’s Park Kyu, which of course led to a desire to rewatch Tamra the Island, and then segued into missing Im Joo Hwan who is in the army, and finally a reminder that my beloved Kim Ji … Continue reading →
After being rumored to join the cast for the past few weeks, today Park Shi Yeon‘s agency announced that she has agreed to star in the drama Nice Guy with Song Joong Ki and Moon Chae Won. It’s pretty much a love triangle between Joong Ki and his two leading ladies, so let’s not pretend we even care who the … Continue reading →
I suspect Queen In Hyun’s Man knows voodoo. It’s found a way to distract me and fry my brain so I don’t care much to parse the details to see if it makes sense. It happened with all the hot kissing at the end of episode 11, and continues onward by having Ji Hyun Woo wear a white shirt and … Continue reading →
I like I Do I Do so much. Episode 2 lost a bit of its earlier J-dorama vibe as the drama heads towards a conventional K-drama rom-com direction, but it retains its mellowness that is addicting to watch. This story is low on the hysteria yet manages to capture all the emotional nuances wonderfully. This is clearly the Kim Sun … Continue reading →
