Hhhhmmmm, I didn’t know I was missing this in my drama watching life. Pretty boy Jung Il Woo doing the Bidam makeover and actually looking…..oh so smexy. I’m glad, he’s first big break was sageuk Return of Iljimae and perhaps his next return to the big leagues will be with this MBN drama Bossam: Stealing Fate. He plays a n’er-do-well … Continue reading →
This week my go-to Mon-Tues romance drama Sunbae, Please Don’t Put on that Lipstick (She Would Never Know) finished its run and I actually had to motivate myself to write a finishing post on it because the drama was soooooo lacking in any true conflict. Emotions briefly flare a few times here and there but it’s resolved in adult conversations … Continue reading →
The Ji Soo debacle in River Where the Moon Rises has rekindled the gripe K-netz has with younger actor/actress casting in sageuk, which is held to a much higher standard thanks to the record breaking ratings in the early Hallyu days for 50-episode epics that required fortitude and intense acting prowess to create. I thought Ji Soo’s acting in River … Continue reading →
I wish this was for the best interests of victims and changing societal behavior but it’s clearly motivated by financial interest. Regardless, at least it’s making agencies more deliberate and considerate when it comes to signing young new talent. K-drama productions are across the board adding contract addendums (to existing contracts signed) and new contract terms for future contracts that … Continue reading →
This is probably my last Sisphyus: The Myth post, it’s not interesting enough in either good or epically bad ways (anymore) to devote time to parse the happenings. The failure of this drama, as evidence by audience feedback and the dropped ratings, is across the board from awful script to lame directing to underwhelming acting. If the world ended because … Continue reading →
I’m currently watching pleasantly along to KBS Wed-Thurs drama Hello? It’s Me! The drama is non-offensive and has moment of comedy and sweetness enough to keep me curious to see what happens next. It looks like the network will keep the same light theme with the next drama lined up Daebak Real Estate (The Chronicle of Haunted Real Estate). Leads … Continue reading →
K-actor Ahn Bo Hyun is on the cusp of transitioning from second male lead to male lead and after his last I think he’s ready for it. He was excellent in Kairos, of course overshadowed by Shin Sung Rok‘s powerhouse but Ahn Bo Hyun did show me he’s got charisma which I didn’t think he had in prior dramas. Kim … Continue reading →
Some old movies and dramas, albeit dated, still hold up on rewatch. The original Terminator holds a near and dear place in my heart not for Ahhhhhnold but for it’s decisive execution of its story. In that time-travel story, the moment our male lead (swoony Kyle Reese) reaches mother of the future savior Sarah Connor and they escape from the … Continue reading →
The casting musical chairs went around multiple times for upcoming melo-romance Now, We Are Breaking Up and the leading lady ended up being the very first name offered the role. Song Hye Kyo will indeed be the female lead of the drama with the production reportedly heavily persuading her because she was the actress they envisioned for the character. Joining … Continue reading →
This is a switch up but I’m totally good with it. K-actor Lee Jae Wook passed on rom-com K-drama Dal Li and Gamja Tang and now Kim Min Jae has been offered the role and has accepted. The female lead is Park Kyu Young still and the change in male lead gives me totally different vibes from the expected coupling … Continue reading →
It’s episode 8 of River Where the Moon Rises and it’s now clear that the whole male lead swap debacle is merely one of the many problems this drama cannot seem to catch a break with. The writing is simplistic and the directing has no crispness or tension, even with the clearly inserted Na In Woo as Ondal scenes close … Continue reading →
It’s kinda do-or-die week for jTBC Wed-Thurs drama Sisyphus: The Myth, heading into episodes 7-8 which would then wrap up the first half of its run. Last week’s ratings dropped but it has a chance to at least chalk up the messy and nonsensical sequences in the earlier episodes has worldbuilding pains and get its act together for the crucial … Continue reading →
This sounds like a derivation of jTBC office romance Sunbae, Please Don’t Put on that Lipstick (She Would Never Know) complete with office and noona-dongsaeng romance. I sure hope there are more stakes that Sunbae because that drama has like zero tension albeit lots of sweetness. Park Min Young and Song Kang are in talks for the leads of romance … Continue reading →
