The upcoming MBC drama The Spies Who Loved Me is totally going to put us in leading lady Yoo In Na‘s shoes as she navigates from spy ex-husband Eric and spy current-husband Im Joo Hwan. This is like the K-drama version of Spy v. Spy and may the best smexy secret agent win, though all signs point to Eric. It’s … Continue reading →
Call me sentimental but I’m actually looking forward to Winter Sonata 2 scheduled for next year in 2021. It’s being billed as a 20th anniversary homage to the Hallyu hit original which aired in 2001, and OMG I still remember my life in 2001 and goodness it’s been nearly 20 years. The drama is currently in pre-production so I’m guessing … Continue reading →
The upside is that it’s definitely age appropriate to the source material and to each other. But why do I feel like two legs are weaker than the third and it’s either going to be elevated or dragged down. Upcoming sageuk Hong Chun Gi, the name of the female lead and also the name of the novel by the writer … Continue reading →
I don’t want to jinx the future of Tale of Gumiho (Tale of the Nine-Tailed) but goodness is this drama my new crack! The Park Bo Gum Show can only do such much in Park Bo Gum appreciation before one gets tired of too much of one candy and Alice is flirting with Oedipal foreshadowing so I have to be … Continue reading →
K-actor Gong Yoo doesn’t have a project in 2020 but it would have been a perfect year for him to drop a “saving the world” type role because he’s totally believable at it. Train to Busan was successful because of his headlining as the dad along with a tight script and excellent supporting cast. Over the years he’s gone from … Continue reading →
K-actor Kim Woo Bin‘s return to his entertainment career has been a slow ramp up since last November when he attended the Blue Dragon Awards as a presenter. Slow and steady is especially important as his health remains a top priority despite recovering from cancer after three years off for treatment. I want to see him pursue that evolving and … Continue reading →
The good is that Tale of Gumiho really is a mash-up of Goblin and Hotel Del Luna and in ways which correct the problems in those dramas, but the bad is the same because viewers will inevitably compare and notice many of the same tropes and the production values aren’t as sleek here. With that said, the first episode stormed … Continue reading →
The production delays due to COVID-19 for many live filming dramas in August and September has turned October 7th into D-day. This Wednesday three new K-dramas have all premiered and there is something for everyone. tvN released Tale of Gumiho (Tale of the Nine-Tailed) with Lee Dong Wook, Jo Boa, and Kim Bum, a fantasy modern take on the nine-tailed … Continue reading →
It’s only been 3 weeks since TW singer-actor-variety host Alien Huang (Huang Hong Sheng and nickname Xiao Gui) passed away on September 16, 2020 but the grieving process feels truncated as everything passed in a whirlwind. From his friends and family memorial to cremation and funeral, he was laid to rest with shock, disbelief, and solemn sorrow for those who … Continue reading →
The ratings took a giant leap up for the Park Bo Gum show Record of Youth and it makes sense as yesterday’s episode 9 and today’s episode 10 are two halves of showcasing Hye Joon’s breakthrough to superstardom. Episode 10 filled in the blanks from when Hye Joon got his sageuk drama to when he won Best Actor and did … Continue reading →
This is one casting combo where I think the two female leads should be swapped. tvN has confirmed the main cast of upcoming Mon-Tues procedural mystery drama Awaken (Korean title Night and Day) with Namgong Min, Seolhyun, and Lee Chung Ah. Seolhyun remains such an unimpressive actress and I never feel she’s substantively improving, whereas Lee Chung Ah has grown … Continue reading →
I feel like this is a retread for female lead Jung So Min but with a different male lead and narrative circumstances it could be equally as winning as Because This is My First Life. The casting has been confirmed for jTBC romance Monthly House with Kim Ji Suk joining Jung So Min in a straight up cohabitation drama. He’s … Continue reading →
For audience members that love a good payoff then episode 9 of Record of Youth hit all the right spots, albeit purely on Hye Joon’s career and none on his relationship with Jung Ah. That’s what I wanted and this was the most entertaining episode in awhile, watching Hye Joon roll from his breakout supporting drama role to scene stealing … Continue reading →
