If I were to split the six main princes of Chinese novel Bu Bu Jing Xin up, my favorite three are 4th, 13th, and 14th, so it’s rather coincidental that the Korean adaptation released new stills of the other three princes first. Bobogyungsim: Ryeo is still deep into filming for a fully pre-produced airing later this year but there have … Continue reading →
Filming recently commenced on the fall airing KBS sageuk Hwarang: The Beginning, with a scheduled pre-produced schedule and plenty of front loaded eye candy already. The network just released character stills of all the main leads and, true to the title, this drama really is about a bunch of flower men which is what Hwarang means in Korean. Starring Park … Continue reading →
This is a Hyun Bin check in post, and not even one that I felt the need to assemble (which I would do!) because the Korean media did it for me last week. Binnie has been acting project-less for over a year, not since the risible Hyde, Jekyll, Me aired in the beginning of 2015, so either he’s just being picky … Continue reading →
Filming is near wrapped for Korean-Chinese co-produced drama Jade Lover (or Emerald Jade Lover), the successor in spirit to last summer’s silly hit Diamond Lover with Rain and Tang Yan. That drama was stupid from the start and then went cray cray with whatever little plot it had in the end, but I still have hopes that Jade Lover with … Continue reading →
A recent Korean ladies magazine poll at the end of March is an interesting peek into how the domestic female viewers feel about how the hot Korean actors the English-speaking drama world fangirls over. It’s not the same list, that’s for sure, if I were to take a poll there are certain names that would dominate even if he hasn’t … Continue reading →
Bigger isn’t necessarily better is a true adage in many situations, and almost certainly applies to dramas. Those aiming for bigger often find the collapse to be equally thunderous, which can make for entertaining watches for the exact opposite reasons of rubbernecking the hot mess. Premiering this April 3rd is the huge budget period C-drama God of War Zhao Zi … Continue reading →
With seemingly never aging HK-star Aaron Kwok in the gossip news recently after confirming his new relationship with a much much younger new starlet, all eyes are also trained on his ex-girlfriend model-actress Lynn Xiong (Lynn Hung). I’m glad Lynn’s not wallowing in misery or crying into a cup that Aaron has moved on, because she’s also moved on with … Continue reading →
A post has been recently making the rounds that collects the way back when pictures of the top Chinese and Taiwanese actresses from their earliest entertainment days. For this group it’s a journey of one to two decades of star ascension and with it plenty of growing sophistication in both style and the whittling away of fresh-faced ingenue aura. Crystal … Continue reading →
It seems late for a drama filming wrap party for Descendants of the Sun, which ended its shoot back in December of 2015. But if it’s a cast and crew celebratory party then the timing couldn’t be better, with this shindig hitting all the major newswires at a time when DotS is top of the ratings charts and every little … Continue reading →
There’s good and bad in everything as the universe naturally has a balance. That’s why I don’t think there is a cut and dry answer to the live-filming versus pre-produced divide in K-dramas, and even with the success of Descendants of the Sun I don’t think can be attributed solely to the drama being fully produced beforehand. That means upcoming … Continue reading →
A big shocker of a new K-ent dating relationship ends the work week on a buzzy note – yet another pair of SM Entertainment’s own pretties have hooked up! EXO‘s Kai and Krystal of f(x) have confirmed they are dating after being Dispatched (I’m making this a verb now) by the notorious tabloid. With the usual grainy parking garage pictures, … Continue reading →
Blogging has become so the norm for me that when I heard both female leads are named Oh Hae Young in the upcoming tvN drama Another Oh Hae Young, I immediately fretted over how to recap such a drama (if I was inclined to) and be able to refer to the two female characters when they share the exact same … Continue reading →
What a roaring return to form for Descendants of the Sun in this fantastic episode 12, putting to rest my worries from the last episode and delivering more than I hoped for. The Argus arc mercifully comes to a swift resolution, and while his villain character was never fleshed out at least Shi Jin’s emotional response feels real and gives … Continue reading →
