It’s been a decade since Tangren produced fantasy wuxia C-drama Chinese Paladin and launched the careers of Hu Ge, Crystal Liu, and Ady An, and more than five years since the just as popular second helping with Chinese Paladin 3 which is credited for putting Wallace Huo, Tang Yan, and Yang Mi on the map. The CP series were all based … Continue reading →
There was plenty of glitter across both sides of the strait this past week – Taiwan held its highest television honors with the Golden Bell Awards while the popular Chinese and Korean stars alighted for the Bazaar Star Charity Night in Beijing. I concur with commentators who have noticed that Chinese and Taiwanese actresses tend to be way more fashion conscious and edgy … Continue reading →
I’m always in awe of writer Tong Hua’s ability to keep the plot moving so briskly and sensibly, on top of creating unforgettable characters in so many of her stories. Both skills come to play now that Lost You Forever is deep into the third and final volume of the epic novel, with no signs of slowly down or losing steam. Zhuan … Continue reading →
I do like Joo Sang Wook a lot, but right now I’m wishing that upcoming MBC Mon-Tues drama Glamorous Temptation was solely about the teens played by Kim Sae Ron and Nam Joo Hyuk. Part of it is being so indifferent to leading lady Choi Kang Hee, but mostly it’s due to my past viewing experiences which have skewed towards … Continue reading →
It’s still two weeks away from the premiere of the next Fuji TV Getsu 9 dorama 5-ji kara 9-ji made (From Five to Nine), which is two weeks too long for me so I’ll have to snack on cute OTP appetizers until then. Starring Yamashita Tomohisa and Ishihara Satomi, the dorama is an adaptation of the same name manga by … Continue reading →
Moon Geun Young‘s comeback month of September has basically been an unending stream of goodies. The fun promo circult she did with Yoo Ah In for sageuk movie The Throne (Sado) showed off yet another male costar of hers that is totally enamored of her talent and personality. Then came the promising previews for upcoming SBS corpse mystery drama The … Continue reading →
The prestigious 50th annual Golden Bell Awards just went down this Saturday night in Taipei, and it was definitely one of the years with a plethora of A-list attendees. None more so than two time Golden Bell Best Actress winner Ariel Lin walking the red carpet with one Golden Bell Best Actor winner on each arm, Vic Zhou to her right and … Continue reading →
I love it when high school dramas sweetly explores friendships in a sincere way, understanding that teens aren’t necessarily about love and angst as much as high school life is driven primarily around interpersonal interactions. Upcoming KBS Mon-Tues drama Sassy Go Go appears to focus a lot on that, with a bromance between male leads Lee Won Geun and Ji Soo … Continue reading →
This is a new twist on the current deluge of Korean-Chinese jointly produced dramas and/or movies – the upcoming Chinese movie remake of the 2011 K-movie Blind is being helmed by the original director himself Ahn Sang Hoon. At least he can’t blame another director for ruining whatever made his original movie a hit, lol. Blind starred Kim Ha Neul … Continue reading →
There are dramas which get scuttled, most recently with Goodbye Mr. Black with Moon Chae Won and Lee Jin Wook, and earlier in the summer with Shin Mina‘s Let’s Have Dinner Together, and then there are dramas that some want to see get kiboshed which inch closer to airing. Filming has begun on Park Shi Hoo‘s comeback drama Neighborhood Hero, … Continue reading →
This bit of J-ent news is like filler on a slow news day, except it just makes me happy since it harkens back to the good ole days when every other J-dorama had me interested to check it out. The Japanese tabloid recently snapped A-list actors Matsumoto Jun, Oguri Shun, and Ikuta Toma out at a bromance gathering at a … Continue reading →
I can’t believe I’m writing this since this particular drama sounded like it was in the bag in terms of production preparation and casting, but clearly nothing’s set until the fat lady sings. Upcoming SBS Wed-Thurs drama Goodbye Mr. Black is no longer upcoming and definitely not going to be an SBS Wed-Thurs fare. The production and SBS have just … Continue reading →
This is a welcome and refreshing piece of drama development news. The screenwriter of the tvn I Need Romance franchise and who also wrote last year’s KBS romance drama Discovery of Love is breaking out of her dating-centric box. Writer Jung Hyun Jung is prepping her next work called Our Five Kids, which tells os a slice-of-life type family story … Continue reading →
