I may have first impression opinions from casting onward about movies or dramas, but opinions are just that, fluid and mutable depending on context. Not thinking something would work doesn’t mean wishing it would fail or being unable to accept a successful result. Which is why I’m happy to be pleasantly surprised with the upcoming Chinese version of the hit … Continue reading →
Looks like Pinocchio is going to milk the teenage sequence sweetness until the audience either gets a toothache or bow to the drama’s successful presentation of yet another popular K-drama trope. The latest stills show leads Park Shin Hye and Lee Jong Seok doing the tried-and-true piggyback ride, this time beautifully lit with the setting sun over country fields beside them. I … Continue reading →
When something works as well as Kim Hee Ae‘s collaboration with the production team (PD and writer) of her last two dramas in Secret Love Affair and A Wife’s Credentials, why mess with a good thing, right? Sure she should change it up but I think there’s room for one more potential gem between them before viewers might get tired … Continue reading →
The first two episodes of K-drama Pride and Prejudice are so much win I can’t even. It’s like MBC finally got its act together and did something right from casting to writing to directing. It’s not perfect but all the working elements have aligned to create a drama that’s watchable either as a legal procedural or a character building team … Continue reading →
Vampires are fast catching up to multiple personality stories as the concept du jour for the 2015 K-drama line up. The sageuk vampire drama Scholar Who Walks the Night (The Night Scholar) has been in works since February of 2014 when it was suspected that Kim Soo Hyun might follow up his blockbuster turn as an alien in You From … Continue reading →
Seldom does casting news feel totally out-of-the-blue for me but this one certainly was unexpected and caught me off guard. I had to rub my eyes and check various news sources first before believing that KBS is really in talks with Yoo Yeon Seok as the leading man for the upcoming high profile Mon-Tues vampire drama Blood. Coming from the … Continue reading →
I’m going to ask for a boon for not being more excited about the upcoming SBS drama Pinoccho. I have three(!) more episodes of My Lovely Girl to get through this week before Pinocchio arrives, and that’s like telling a kid to eat five plates of brussel sprouts before dessert arrives. Pinocchio also hasn’t been all that steady and reliable … Continue reading →
Facing Bom-yi and her family’s pain this week has not been easy, mostly because of how real life has colored my expectations. In the last two weeks, a close teacher’s husband died after a 6 year struggle with brain cancer, a younger colleague was diagnosed with colon cancer and a very good friend has spent the last month in and … Continue reading →
Lee Jong Seok’s popularity in China and headway into the market really came fast and furious. Lee Jong Seok follows in his new leading lady’s footsteps as he held his first even China fanmeeting last week in Beijing, hosted by video portal Tudou in conjunction with his agency. His rise started with last year’s I Hear Your Voice, which was relatively … Continue reading →
MBC has been regularly the ratings loser in the Wed-Thurs prime time slot for quite some time now until the just finished My Spring Days led a very very weak competition line up. That’s not an indication of quality since some of the dramas have been quite good actually. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming Mr. Back (Mr. Baek) … Continue reading →
I’m not so excited about the upcoming TW-drama Boysitter (摩女搶頭婚) that its impending arrival next Saturday is an event I’ve been looking forward to. With that said, I’m quite pleased with the different vibe that I’m getting from the mood and cast. I watch a lot of SETTV dramas, probably too many vis-a-vis the actual quality that network puts out. … Continue reading →
It’s really nice of KBS to give viewers the fanservice with new spoilery stills featuring my favorite couple in the weekend drama What’s with This Family. The drama firmly passed the 30% ratings mark last week, which is a huge feat in this day and age but not completely unheard of still in the weekend family-friendly time slot. A few … Continue reading →
This was a relatively uneventful episode of Kyou wa Kaisha Yasumimasu that can best be chalked up as “the case of the unexpected pink scrunchie”. Part of the allure of this dorama is how ordinary it is to follow square little Hanae as she evolves into a more dynamic version of herself rather than being stuck in the same routine … Continue reading →
