Wed-Thurs has been my happy days of the week for the past two months thanks to KBS rom-com Dali and the Cocky Prince (Dal Ri and Gamjatang). There are already so few K-drama rom-coms these years past and even fewer good ones so this drama has become my unicorn and I treasure it even more for being such a rarity. It’s not perfect, and I can nitpick like the best of them but the narrative problems are all minor whole the well done aspect is the central requirement of a good rom-com – appealing leads with great chemistry and personality compatibility within the construct of their fictional characters. I’m both excited about this week’s final two episodes and super sad it’s coming to an end. For once I’m not worried it will take a sharp left off the cliff in the finale as the drama has convinced me it understands that the story care the most about Dali and Moo Hak’s love story and their time together so I feel the last two episodes won’t draw out the whole art museum takeover story and will devote plenty of time for my cutie pie OTP to just be adorable, kissy kissy some more, and walk forward together stronger than ever. I’m also savoring my time with Park Kyu Young, who is a revelation here in her soft yet steely performance, and Kim Min Jae who just rocketed up my list to become one of my permanent baes now.

In nearly two decades of K-drama watching, the rom-com genre has the most unique Korean flavor (other genres can be similar to non-Korean shows) but is also the one most frequently and easily messed up. It’s the souffle of K-dramas … Continue reading
KBS rom-com drama Dali and the Cocky Prince (Dal Ri and Gamjatang) has turned into the opposite of SBS drama Lovers of the Red Sky, and I’m not talking about the genres. It feels comparable solely because I am watching … Continue reading
I’ll preface this post by saying it’s going to be long (I have a lot to say) and that I LOVE THIS DRAMA!!! thank you very much. KBS Wed-Thurs rom-com Dali and the Cocky Prince (Dal Ri and Gamjatang) rounded … Continue reading
I know the Big Three networks still “try” and produce rom-coms but it’s been a steady stream of lackluster attempts that never capture the early aughts charm of the Hallyu rom-com of that era. I can’t say the just premiered … Continue reading
I wonder if KBS tried to start off so badly that anything after is nothing up better? How else to explain the godawful first poster of Dali and the Cocky Prince (Dalri and Gamjatang) followed by seriously creative and excellent … Continue reading
Okay, not THIS is what I call great drama posters, and what a whiplash spectrum slide from godawful first poster with the weird washed out palette to these excellent memorable gems. The character posters are out for KBS rom-com Dali … Continue reading
The last time I watched a drama set around a family franchise of a famous Korean dish, I was craving Seolleongtang all the time as I was addicted like mad to Brilliant Legacy/Shining Inheritance. Now I’m going to love gamjatang … Continue reading
Now this is more like it! The opening night red carpet of the 2019 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) really delivered the wow factor with many famous names and faces showing up to support the local film industry. The big … Continue reading
If this week’s sad showing of mostly second and third tier K-stars at the Korean Drama Awards, then it was the exact opposite at the opening night red carpet of the 2018 Busan International Film Festival where I felt so … Continue reading
The year end 2017 SBS Drama Awards was really the Ji Sung and Lee Bo Young show, with the married acting couple basically turning the event into their own lovey dovey showcase and honestly that’s fine with me. They are … Continue reading
Since I don’t follow K-pop the interest in the pan-Asian Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) is solely on the attendee star power of many K-stars. The Hong Kong show last night was a total win for me on the actors … Continue reading
