So C-dramas typically release stills on major holidays in the full year or more leading up to the premiere. Chinese Valentine’s Day is big, Lunar New Year, Mid Autumn Festival, you name it, but Dragon Boat Festival or Duan Wu Jie isn’t one that I recall getting as many drama still releases but this release for one highly anticipated drama … Continue reading →
Oh this is so dumb and I hope it doesn’t lead to the remainder of this super entertaining drama getting weird end scenes. The Double has been airing on a fast clip and in just one week exceeded all expectations in terms of viewership and reviews. It’s well made, well acted, and just so darn satisfying to watch the good … Continue reading →
Oh how things change, and yet stay the same. I am loving The Double greatly and for the first time a performance and character by Wu Jin Yan, though by all accounts she rocketed to stardom 6 years ago in Story of Yanxi Palace in precisely the same playbook – cunning and resourceful woman navigating treacherous waters while plotting revenge. … Continue reading →
So my little bae Dylan Wang has been picky recently with his projects so he doesn’t have a lot on deck, in the pocket there is the finished period drama Guardians of the Dafeng coming out this fall and he’s filming the modern police drama Light to the Night right now. So it perked me up to hear that he’s … Continue reading →
So C-ent news this week got a jolt with the very random and frankly too long a gap confirmation that a sequel to Princess Agents is set to start production. It’s based on the source novel and picks up from that frozen lake ending scene, with female lead Chu Qiao set for revenge for the death of her beloved Yuwen … Continue reading →
With Joy of Life 2 done it’s time for a lot more C-dramas to premiere. Two that arrived at the tail of JoL2 has two very different outcomes – big budget high expectation Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red Moon Pact is a dud in every way from acting to chemistry to writing to directing while comparatively lower budget with less well … Continue reading →
Tis the season for high profile guest starring in C-drama lol. Just months after C-actress Zheng Hehuizi turned a cameo in In Blossom into a career launcher from supporting to upcoming leading lady roles, now comes Yang Chao Yue to do the same again and she may succeed. Yang Chao Yue has already been the leading lady of dramas but … Continue reading →
So the Chinese are massively superstitious. In the production world, the filming start ceremonies are picked for auspicious days, the prayers are for smooth filming, and the red envelopes for good tidings. That’s why it’s totally true that stars with either bad news attached or seem to be around bad things do find it harder to get cast. The opposite … Continue reading →
So Lost You Forever may just suffer the most of a hit drama getting the momentum wind sucked out of it thanks to splitting into two parts. Part 1 aired last summer and was as closed to what I had hoped for being a mega fan of the source novel. This is probably as good as it gets in terms … Continue reading →
The year is half over now that it’s June 2024 and one big name in C-drama land I’ve not yet seen out with a drama is Dylan Wang. Last year in 2023 he had three C-dramas, not to say any of those were good lol but at least there was stuff to watch. He’s usually done 2-3 per year but … Continue reading →
C-actress Zhao Lu Si‘s short break after wrapping filming for period drama The Story of Pearl Girl is over as she’s headed back to the set in a week or so on June 10th. The new drama is a modern romance titled Let Me Shine (許我耀眼 Shu Wo Yao Yan) and the male lead will be William Chan. Earlier it … Continue reading →
Why does most of any bad press for C-actor Wang Yibo always start with “his fans”. The latest brouhaha in C-ent is Wang Yibo’s fandom going berserk and publicly denigrating veteran C-actor Wang Yang, who starred in War of Faith earlier this year with Wang Yibo. The nominations came out for the Magnolia Awards hosted by the Shanghai Television Festival … Continue reading →
This C-drama adaptation of the youth romance novel Cherry Amber (English title Our Generation) has been in talks for a few years now but it’s normal in C-ent for a long lead up to the casting. Prior years have floated the possibility of Wu Lei and Zhao Lu Si reuniting for this but both have leveled up and moved on. … Continue reading →
