What’s a North Korean spy going to do when she’s torn between duty and love? I really wish I didn’t board the good ship Choi Ryu because it would be deliciously juicy to angst over a Hallyu star who put his career on the line for a nobody only to discover she’s been scheming him since the very beginning. And … Continue reading →
One of the things I love about Protect the Boss (and there are too many things to list) is that the characters all react to situations in such honest ways. What drives some drama narrative is when characters deny or repress their feelings so we can have the requisite misunderstandings and plot can get dragged out. In PTB, people cry, … Continue reading →
After holding a dedication ceremony at the beginning of August in Kaifeng (the capital of China during the Song dynasty), the production of Saving General Yang finally got a non-gimpy leading man (Ekin Cheng stepping in for the injured Louis Koo) and can continue on its merry way to bring Koala her man-candy-epic movie. The production held a press conference … Continue reading →
This is Koala’s left hand posting. Her right hand is still on vacation and refuses to participate. But both her left and right eye happily viewed this preview for episode 12 of Spy Myung Wol and was mildly amused. Looks like all the hubhub has finally died down outside of the drama, while the story itself appears to have taken … Continue reading →
Most dramas tend to be middle-of-the-road fare – you watch and then you forget about it. But sometimes even those dramas yield things that are memorable in other ways, it stays with you for a good long while. Today’s recess time discussion is this: has there been anything in a certain drama that you covet? It can range from something … Continue reading →
I won’t be around to check out episode 1 of the upcoming Office Girls with Roy Qiu, Alice Ke, James Wen, and Tia Li, which is the drama that will be taking over Drunken to Love You’s spot on Sundays on TTV. But I wouldn’t be posting about it if I didn’t really enjoy all the previews that I’ve seen. … Continue reading →
Gong Hyo Jin and Cha Seung Won are probably the two most high-fashion couture actor/models in Korean entertainment. Long, leggy, lithe, with non-conventionally pretty but rather striking features, if fashion week in Paris needed two Korean actors, they would be the ones I’d send. September’s issue of Harper’s Bazaar Korea reunites them for the first time after their hit rom-com … Continue reading →
When Koala’s on holiday, the Playground might seem awfully quiet. But it needn’t be that way, as so many drama mates from around the world have congregated here and ought to be more than capable of stirring up some fun to pass the time. As the Captain, I am here to inaugurate a new category of posts henceforth called “Recess”. … Continue reading →
Grrrrr, Hyun Joong, you are just trying to torment your noona (ME), aren’t you? I bitch about not being fond of your new nose, and then BAM, you toddle off to Taiwan for a whirlwind trip looking about as hot as I have ever seen you look. You are simply going to force me to accept your new visage by … Continue reading →
Going to Hawaii to do a photoshoot after wrapping a drama appears to be the recent trend. Yoon Eun Hye did a Harper’s Bazaar photoshoot in Hawaii right after finishing Lie to Me, and now two other May K-drama actresses have followed suit. Sung Yuri completed Romance Town and Park Min Young wrapped City Hunter, then both girls went to … Continue reading →
The first item of business is that I’m sure everyone has already noticed the playground has a brand new look. I experimented between two formats, and this one has the best of the two most vital functions: broad reading width and wide comments section. Hate it or love it, it’s here to stay. My previous layout was always meant to … Continue reading →
Since news broke a few weeks ago that Louis Koo, who was to play the eldest Yang brother in the upcoming Saving General Yang (or as I call it – “that hot men go to war movie”), took a tumble down the stairs at home tearing his achilles and injuring his right wrist, I’ve been reluctant to believe producer Bakmin … Continue reading →
Protect the Boss rewards those with faith in their dramas, who ask not for immediate gratification or instantaneous exposition. This is a drama where the viewer isn’t straining to figure out what is going to happen, yet remains curious about situations that are clearly presented but not so easy to immediately ascertain it entire purpose. I really appreciate that. It’s … Continue reading →
