I had heard the 2020 Asia Artist Awards may be postponed due to COVID-19 increasing in South Korea but it went on this weekend, without an audience but actually really nice to see many popular stars taking the time to attend and accept their awards in person. I usually critique the red carpet outfits but I could care less, just … Continue reading →
The last K-drama I’m anticipating for 2020 is the jTBC romance Run On, arriving on December 16th just in time to add to my roster for my usual holiday binge. The first posters featured the first OTP set with Shin Se Kyung and Im Shi Wan against a beautiful blue sky backdrop, very outdoorsy and fitting since he’s a runner. … Continue reading →
I’m all for this time jump in Start-Up, there was way too much to unpack by sheer discussion and resolution alone and way more interesting to see characters grow a bit before gathering back together. The teaser stills for episode 13 have tons of nuggets to digest, everyone has a new hair style but of course and the biggest vibe … Continue reading →
Consider it a Black Friday gift to the world from Netflix, if you’re either not out shopping and also not still passed out from too much turkey and wine last night on Thanksgiving. The thriller K-movie Call, originally with a February 2020 premiere date, has been released exclusively on Netflix streaming worldwide. If you have an account, and either love … Continue reading →
I thought stage shows would still be not happening in South Korea but it’s actually nice to hear this wonderful play will be arriving there with a lovely cast. Veterans and national treasure grandpas Lee Soon Jae and Shin Goo will be taking turns playing the lead in Grandpa Henry and Me, a French play described as heartwarming and life … Continue reading →
Viewers of tvN Sat-Sun drama Start-Up naturally love Kim Sun Ho and his character. There is nothing not to love, he’s flawed and prickly and whip smart and deeply emotional from a lifetime of telling himself that he’s not emotional. It’s a great character and Kim Sun Ho is doing it beyond justice, so I really really hate the love … Continue reading →
Cable network tvN pulled a switch up this month, airing Birthcare Center in the Mon-Tues slot after Record of Youth but it was only an 8-episode drama. My mental scheduling was thrown off track but it’s back on my radar now that the cast held the press conference for the next drama Awaken (Night and Day). Starring Namgong Min, Seolhyun, … Continue reading →
When I saw the teaser poster for upcoming jTBC drama adaptation of manhwa Sunbae Please Don’t Put on that Lipstick, it makes sense because the male lead’s entreaty is due to him kissing her senseless and rubbing all that lipstick off so why bother. Joking aside, the drama has the two leads working for a large cosmetics company so maybe … Continue reading →
I’m all for shows to go on as long as it can be done safely, and this year South Korea has managed a dash more normalcy with adjusted events than other countries. The biggest music event of the year is always the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) which has been held overseas or in multiple venues on different days in … Continue reading →
With 2020 closing what has been a remarkably topsy turvy year, it’ll be nice is 2021 gets the world back to normalcy and a fresh start. K-actress Kim So Hyun is looking for a fresh start, her contract with current agency E&T Story Entertainment is coming to an end and K-ent reports that she is in talks to sign with … Continue reading →
The makjang rich-versus-poor formula hits another jackpot and this time for one of the Big Three networks on prime time. SBS Mon-Tues drama Penthouse (Penthouse: War on Life) premiered with 6.7% ratings and this most recent episode 9 followed a steady episode increase to reach 16%. There hasn’t been much for the mainstream channels to smile about this year in … Continue reading →
One of the first K-dramas to arrive in 2021 will be jTBC romance drama Sunbae Please Don’t Put on that Lipstick, taking over the Mon-Tues timeslot from high school broadcasting drama Live On. I’m still majorly enjoying the last bits of the 2020 dramas so haven’t been too focused on next year, but Sunbae is one of those dramas that … Continue reading →
I liked the premise of C-drama Go Princess Go better than the execution, because goodness was it so low rent it was basically rent-a-costume with whatever haphazard acting could be summoned up for the plot. But the “what if” was so fun to ponder – a modern day playboy male transported in soul back to the past into the body … Continue reading →
