Filming has kicked off for the summer tvN drama Knowing Wife, which will air in early August after Why Secretary Kim so I’m glad it’s getting a healthy head start. Starring Ji Sung and Han Ji Min, the former can do no wrong for me while the latter rarely does anything right, yet I’m oddly optimistic this pairing will work … Continue reading →
Get ready Lee Seung Gi and Suzy versin 2.0, and judging from the character synopsis the production team could even pretend that the modern leads are picking up from where Gu Family Book ended. GFB is, of course, the fantasy sageuk drama that first gave the world Seung Gi-Suzy pairing and then subsequently proved that it should never happen again. … Continue reading →
After a one turn of the leading lady roulette it’s settled on a more familiar drama face to join So Ji Sub in his upcoming drama Terius Behind Me. K-actress Yoo In Na is stepping back into leading lady territory after Lee Yoo Young was first offered the role, toggling between first and second female lead in a string of … Continue reading →
It’s probably best to say nothing and do nothing if one is a K-ent celebrity, at least until it’s clear what the truth is. Perhaps that’s turning a blind eye but jumping the gun just to support the underdog or fight for the rights of those weaker may cause blowback as Suzy is experiencing this week. Youtuber Yang Ye Won … Continue reading →
HOLY %^&*#*! Sorry for the screaming but this is legit unreal even as a potential casting rumor. K-ent is reporting that Song Hye Kyo is considering the female lead role in upcoming romance K-drama Boyfriend which will likely star Park Bo Gum. Let’s all take a step back and consider that any potential K-drama that even remotely may star Song … Continue reading →
Whatever screenwriter Kim Eun Sook has written has turned into ratings gold for over a decade, I’m not about to start betting against the surest thing in K-drama land and a key driver in sustaining the Hallyu craze. Every time things seem to be waning one of her dramas comes along and invigorates conversation from Secret Garden to Heirs to … Continue reading →
This may be the most profitable K-drama in terms of licensing, I’m going to have to do a deep dive into the annals to find whether there has been another K-drama licensed to two or more other countries for remaking. The medical drama Good Doctor is confirmed to be remade into a J-dorama starring J-ent dorama It Male Lead Yamazaki … Continue reading →
I heaved big sigh of relief with the weekend premiere of jTBC thriller police drama Sketch, for the fact that both male leads are faves of mine and totally due for a drama that audiences like and reward with ratings. Starring Rain, Lee Dong Gun, and Lee Sun Bin, Sketch was under promoted and even I nearly forgot about its … Continue reading →
Have you ever had the compulsion to rip something off – an errant thread on your clothes, a half already bandaid, a weird piece that ruins the visual symmetry of an item. I am so ready to OCD Hulk out the moment I laid eyes on C-actress Gao Yuan Yuan‘s all white outfit at last week’s media event. Mark Chao, … Continue reading →
I’m glad to hear that C-netizens hate the voice dubbing for the new Meteor Garden 2018 remake as much as I do. I think Chinese viewers and even many older Taiwanese drama viewers are used to dubbing, it’s a fact of life that that standard Mandarin is the default language on television and accomplished via dubbing when there are thousands … Continue reading →
I’m curious to see whether upcoming tvN drama Why Secretary Kim succeeds in the ratings, and if so whether it heralds the resurgence of leading lady Park Min Young. She never really left but after Sungkyunkwan Scandal and City Hunter she lost her buzz for a bit, and I blame the wacky Man of Honor which I couldn’t help but … Continue reading →
The good news is that K-actress Kim Yoo Jung is all recovered from her health scare a few months ago that led filming being halted on K-drama Clean with Passion for Now, the bad news is that now leading man Ahn Hyo Seob has bowed out of the drama due to scheduling conflicts after he accepted K-drama I’m 30 But … Continue reading →
A slotting in of new dramas in two networks has solidified the lead of KBS legal drama Suits in the lead among a generally weak pack of prime time dramas. Suits is staying steading in the 9% range with Thursday’s episode taking in 9.6%. Coming in second though it’s really neck-and-neck is MBC drama Come and Hug Me with 4.6% … Continue reading →
