If there was a C-star that doesn’t need to be even more popular that he already is, that would be Luhan. At this point his name stands alone in China and doesn’t even need the formerly of EXO in reference. I still don’t quite understand how he got this famous this fast but who am I to begrudge the Chinese … Continue reading →
Consider me excited now for upcoming Chinese-Korean collaboration movie Bad Guys Always Die (坏蛋必须死). I really haven’t seen a good collab movie or drama since the groundswell of such projects started in recent years, but this one looks as entertaining as any movie trailer can hope to rope in the general audience. Starring Bolin Chen, Son Ye Jin, Kimi Qiao, … Continue reading →
C-actress Tang Yan is toeing the line big time on being over-exposed. But then again, in show business there is such a saying as no such thing as bad publicity, just no publicity. The upcoming Korean-Chinese joint production movie Bounty Hunters has finally revealed its female lead, and surprising it’s not Yang Mi as all the insiders have been declaring … Continue reading →
The go-big-or-go-home aspect of fully pre-produced K-drama Descendants of the Sun actually gets me even more excited, on top of it being written by Kim Eun Sook and starring one of my faves Song Joong Ki. The whole industry feels haphazard these days, with most dramas doing single digit ratings and on top of that being boring which is just … Continue reading →
It’s going to be hard to top the collective audience outrage that erupted this week over the ending of the popular summer C-drama Diamond Lover. The drama starring Rain, Tang Yan, and Luo Jin has been doing gangbuster ratings since it premiered in late July, running for over 60 episodes and keeping the local audiences hooked all the way. The … Continue reading →
There’s a new weekend drama just around the corner that I’m planning to check out. My Daughter Geum Sa Wol premieres on September 5th on MBC following the conclusion of Flower of the Queen this weekend. I actually check out more weekend dramas than I write about, mostly because I end up running away screaming after just one episode. But … Continue reading →
This is certainly happy news for some people, who I’ll venture to guess are the sliver of drama fans who liked the latest widely panned adaptation of wuxia novel Return of the Condor Heroes. This drama version was called Romance of the Condor Heroes 2014 and starred the perfectly cast C-actor Chen Xiao as the male lead with the near … Continue reading →
It’s the ladies turn to voice their preferences and this top-10 list has quite a few overlaps with the recently released male audience picks. There is a wee distinction, which was likely used in asking the question, as the men were asked which male actor they found the coolest/manliest, while the women were asked which male actor they found the … Continue reading →
September 15th will see the premiere of intense sageuk film The Throne (Korean title Sado), which might end up dethroning the current number 1 movie at the Korean box office by the same leading man. Yoo Ah In‘s cops-and-robbers thriller Veteran with Hwang Jung Min is owning all of August at the Korean box office, and may have the legs … Continue reading →
The interest is definitely high for upcoming KBS drama Descendants of the Sun, so high that even mere seconds of an unexpected teaser gets everyone talking. The teaser may have been short (like, blink and miss it short) but delivers the bang for the buck by showing drama leads Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo together filming a scene. … Continue reading →
It’s so perfect that my favorite picture from the recently released Yoochun pictorial in Marie Claire Korea is the one where half his face is hiding behind a turtleneck. The picture slays on the power of his piercing eyes alone, enough to identify him for me even with just the nose on up visible. He’s not the best looking idol … Continue reading →
I’m always entertained by lists and polls, offering a snapshot of the general reaction to the topic at hand without needing to take it seriously. The latest list is interesting in how many selections elicited approving nods from me. tvN did a poll of Korean males to ask who their favorite manly actor was and the top three is basically … Continue reading →
SBS doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to sageuks, with rival network MBC always putting out at least one long sageuk a year and KBS doing well with shorter and buzzier fusion sageuks. Keeping that in mind, I am so so soooooo excited about upcoming Mon-Tues long sageuk Six Flying Dragons, which will take over for Mrs. … Continue reading →
