Like it or not, the next adaptation of shoujo manga story Itazura na Kiss (It Started with a Kiss) is coming soon like a train that doesn’t even realize it’s making the umpteenth round into the same station. Will viewers board this version? Some will and likely enough to make it worthwhile to keep churning this out with new and … Continue reading →
The premise of currently filming period C-drama General and I is really one of female appreciation, and not with the visual gaze but with the mental connection. Adapted from popular C-novel A Lonesome Fragrance Waiting to be Appreciated (Gu Fang Bu Zhi Shang), it’s a warring states star-crossed romance that makes the gorgeous male lead the eye candy while the … Continue reading →
Actresses rarely get the accolade of aging beautifully, reserved for actors who grow older onscreen with dignity while the fresh-faced beauties are held up to impossible standards. With that said, leading lady Zhao Li Ying is absolutely aging beautifully and it’s all due to her shedding the super cutesy baby girl looks and flourishing into an angular more intense glamour. … Continue reading →
I can’t believe I’m saying this since I’m super old school when it comes to my wuxia dramas and especially when it comes to drama adaptations of famous Louis Cha novels, but the upcoming 2016 version of Legend of the Condor Heroes actually looks pretty decent so far. I was completely taken aback when I came across news that LoCH … Continue reading →
After five months filming has wrapped on the C-drama adaptation of popular fantasy period novel Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms. Not to be confused with the C-movie adaptation which also wrapped recently starring Crystal Liu and Yang Yang, the C-drama version is just as star-studded with Mark Chao and Yang Mi headlining as the star-crossed and reincarnation … Continue reading →

I’m halfway through reading the C-novel A Lonesome Fragrance Waiting to be Appreciated (孤芳不自赏 Gu Fang Bu Zhi Shang) and am oddly stalled even though it’s entertaining enough. Maybe seeing the first stills from the C-drama adaptation will spur me to pick it back up, though English title of General and I makes me want to chortle. Starring Wallace Chung … Continue reading →
2017 may seem so far away except it’s already June and halfway through 2016 already, like it or not. Which makes upcoming fantasy wuxia movie Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms seem ephemerally attainable now that it’s set a next year cinematic airing date. It’s also gotten an English title of Once Upon a Time, and maybe Disney … Continue reading →

There’s a surprising new C-drama filming that starts off with landing a huge name in K-ent – A-list movie star Jang Dong Gun, one of the original flower boys, is in China filming an idol drama right now. Shocking, I know. Jang Dong Gun’s leading lady is C-actress Tang Yi Xin (Tina Tang), and he gets as second female lead … Continue reading →
A walk down is always welcome when it comes to my favorite dramas, those that linger forever like a soft imprint on the narrative soul. The stories that resonated seem a bit timeless even as the people playing the characters move on. One of Taiwan’s most popular and beloved dramas is indisputably It Started with a Kiss, the adaptation of … Continue reading →
I thought it was a million in one shot in the dark that HK acting god and superstar Tony Leung would make a return to television drama after a 27 year hiatus. And now casting news has confirmed that the attempt to lure Tony was a no go, but in his place comes an actor who has been surging in … Continue reading →
