This is a two-fer bit of news to me though neither aspect surprises me when the entertainment world is all about remakes and crossovers. Park Min Young is experiencing a bona fide career resurgence thanks to her well-received performance in the cult hit Healer. The drama didn’t get sterling ratings when it aired but had quite a vocal online audience. … Continue reading →
The first official full scale drama stills are out for upcoming period C-drama God of War Zhao Zhi Long. I’ll go soft on my critique for now and just say that I’m not impressed. I’ll leave it to the angry C-netizens to rip this one apart, seeing as how the general consensus is that it looks chintzy rather than magnificent … Continue reading →
It’s crazy how popular Silent Separation (何以笙箫默 He Yi Sheng Xiao Mo) the story is lately all thanks to the hit C-drama adaptation with the English title of My Sunshine. I could do with never hearing the same name theme song, way overplayed during the drama, but the OTP only MVs that have popped up since the drama wrapped will … Continue reading →
I don’t know whether to be annoyed or impressed with the production of upcoming period C-drama God of War Zhao Zhi Long. The drama released the most teaser-ish of teasers, putting all previous drama teases to shame for showing too much to be really called a teaser. In an impressive feat of clever tie-in, the production sneaked the first official … Continue reading →
Waking up to magical drama casting news definitely sets the mood for the entire day to “ecstatic”. It’s been four years since the last SETTV mega-hit drama, which was the unexpected success of Office Girls with Roy Qiu and Alice Ke. It was so popular it even beat In Time With You in ratings by a long shot. I loved … Continue reading →
I’m sooooo happy there is finally an end date in sight for Friday night SETTV idol drama Aim High. The title is just ripe for skewering considering it did the opposite of that, calling it Aim So Low or Aim High and Fall Flat on Your Face would be more apt. Even my beloved Lego Lee couldn’t make me stay … Continue reading →
When her love life gave her lemons, Tang Yan went and made herself come career lemonade. The Chinese acting world is constantly on the look out for pretty actresses to stay popular in the leading lady status, a spot occupied not just by acting talent but more by having a likable aura onscreen. That’s basically Tang Yan’s entire MO in … Continue reading →
Goodies have to be shared to taste even yummier and this week’s best treat has got to be the first three minutes of this week’s episode 6 from Sunday night SETTV idol drama Someone Like You (Hearing Happiness). The drama is doing solidly in the ratings with a devoted fanbase, and oddly I’m probably less addicted than I ought to … Continue reading →
It’s Lunar New Year on February 19th this year, much later than the usual early February or late January dates during most years. That’s because the Lunar calender only has 30 days in every month so after a few years it gets so out of sync with the seasons and the Gregorian calendar that a month gets added back. That … Continue reading →
It’s been a nice month-long build up towards the premiere of the C-version of Queen In Hyun’s Man. The drama Love Through a Millennium starts this Sunday and airs two episodes a week every Sun-Mon similar to the typical Korean drama airing schedule rather than the frenetic C-drama airing of two short episodes a night all week long. This drama … Continue reading →
The big-budget, big name cast (not to mention big bosomed) period C-drama The Empress of China is wrapping up after a wild seven weeks run that included censoring, wonky editing, and WTF historical inaccuracy all around. This wasn’t an idol drama and actually had legit cred with acclaimed C-actress Fan Bing Bing playing the Tang dynasty Empress Wu Zhe Tian, … Continue reading →
The imminent arrival of the C-version of Queen In Hyun’s Man brings back all my positive memories of the drama and none of the problems I had with it. It’s gotten the official English title of Love Through a Millennium which is a literal translation of the Chinese title 相爱穿梭千年. The drama premieres this Sunday night and airs two episodes … Continue reading →
I’ve been tapping my toes impatiently waiting for the C-remake of Queen In Hyun’s Man to drop me a video teaser or two. The pretty (so so pretty) drama stills are nice and all but I want to look at the mood in action. I remember being uninterested in Queen In Hyun’s Man until I watched the brilliantly done teaser … Continue reading →
