I’ve been watching the latest SETTV drama Someone Like You since it aired but have found nothing to write about til now. It’s not as terrible as Fall in Love with Me but that’s not saying much. SLY is mostly a dense collection of character and narrative tropes that soaks the entire dish in a layer of cheese and whether you … Continue reading →
I’m getting a tad overexcited about the upcoming C-remake of Queen In Hyun’s Man. Blame it on the visuals, or shall I say I’m a sucker for super pretty dramas. The C-remake is being produced in conjunction with the Korean company that made the original, shipping in the Korean PD behind I Need Romance 2 and I Need Romance 3 … Continue reading →
China might have a new drama industry to mine – copying popular K-dramas and making a ridiculous parody out of it. There was the absurd but fun Heirs From Another Star, but even before that project got off the ground there was already Billion Dollar Heirs in the making. To be fair to producer Li Shao Hong, her heirs-centric drama synopsis … Continue reading →
I’ve gotten my optimism back up with the surge of C-dramas I’m looking forward to as well as a handful of silly but watchable ones recently. Perfect Couple with Tang Yan and Wallace Huo as well as Incisive Great Teacher with Liu Shi Shi and Nicky Wu were enjoyably cute and much better than I expected last year while My … Continue reading →
The currently airing C-drama My Sunshine is beyond addicting. It’s like tasty empty calorie fluffy drama popcorn. Adapted from the popular C-novel Silent Separation (He Yi Sheng Xiao Mo 何以笙箫默), the C-drama stars suitably cast Wallace Chung and Tang Yan but what keeps me addicted are the two youngsters and the college era sweet romance. That, and Wallace occasionally cracking a … Continue reading →
I’m super stoked about the first new SETTV drama of 2015 in the currently airing Someone Like You starring Kingone Wang and Kirsten Jen. It’s also a good time to be reminded of all the little things the network did right last year with a brand new series of Spop Magazine covers featuring popular pairings from 2014 SETTV dramas. The pictures were taken … Continue reading →
There might be some Tang Yan overdosing coming up as a second of her highly anticipated C-dramas is about to premiere while currently one is on air. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying My Sunshine, the C-drama adaptation of the Gu Man novel Silent Separation (He Yi Sheng Xiao Mo 何以笙箫默) more for the college era romance played by the two younger … Continue reading →
Filming has started for the big-budget and big-cast upcoming period C-drama Wu Shen Zhao Zi Long with a working English title of God of War Zhao Yun. The drama made headlines last month for the casting of SNSD member Yoona as the female lead, making her first foray into the Chinese market and doing it in a big way. She’s … Continue reading →
I’m way addicted to the currently airing C-drama My Sunshine based on the Gu Man novel Silent Separation (He Yi Sheng Xiao Mo 何以笙箫默), one of those rare beasts where is the drama is good as the novel. That’s saying a lot even though I have to qualify that both are merely okay as far as storytelling quality, but producing a consistent … Continue reading →
The latest batch of official drama stills coming out of the C-drama set of Love Through Thousands of Years looks soooooo beautiful. I’m not surprised the visuals are gorgeous because this C-drama adaptation of Queen In Hyun’s Man has a Korean PD behind the camera – PD Jang Young Woo who directed tvN‘s I Need Romance 2 and I Need Romance … Continue reading →
A modern new C-drama classic gets a fresh coat of Western paint and the result is unending hilarity that makes me cackle even as I’m thisclose to falling into blissful slumber. The currently hot topic C-drama The Empress of China is merely the latest and boobiest challenger for the throne still occupied by the early 2012 hit The Legend of … Continue reading →
Filming has started on the C-drama adaptation of the popular time-traveling K-drama from a few years ago Queen In Hyun’s Man. Starring pretty young things Zheng Shuang and Jing Bo Ran, the drama has a different title since it’s now based on Chinese history and there ain’t no Queen In Hyun in any Chinese dynasty. The C-drama is titled In … Continue reading →
The 2014 drama year in C-ent didn’t just end with hilarious Cleavage-gate around The Empress of China, the much dreaded Yu Zheng adaptation of Return of the Condor Heroes (English drama title of this version is called Romance of the Condor Heroes) arrived and promptly confirmed the validity behind all the casting hullabaloo last year over Michelle Chen being cast as Xiaolongnu, … Continue reading →
