So I finally finished reading the novel version of The Moon that Embraces the Sun. While the drama hasn’t deviated so significantly from the novel that I would accord it an “inspired by” moniker, its deviated enough in major enough ways that I have no clue what parts of the novel might make it into the drama intact. With rumors … Continue reading →
I can’t believe how excited I am for a drama about getting a second chance at a first love with a cast of youngsters which is based off a drama I didn’t like all that much the first time around. I guess it’s the Yoo Seung Ho love overwhelming my senses. Co-starring Park Eun Bin as the titular first love … Continue reading →
[Edit: MBC is on crack, because it just released the written preview for episode 10 as well. Woo hoo! Bringing it to you below] If Hwon and Woon continue to remain so close, even I’m going to start wondering if the bodyguard and his King is undertaking some A Frozen Flower-esque forbidden love. I’m kidding, of course. Nothing wrong with … Continue reading →
Everyone around me has been bugging me to write this post, and of course I dragged my feet until the last possible moment. Part of me feels like I’m pulling a Brett Favre (I’m retiring, oh wait, I’m back, nope, retiring for good, just a moment I’ll play one more year…..), but it’s the sad reality that I simply cannot … Continue reading →
Watching Yoon Si Yoon in Me Too, Flower! was a revelation of sorts, akin to watching a kid grow up right before your eyes. Not only did he physically seem to have matured, his acting also improved by leaps and bounds from his Baker King, Kim Tak Goo days. I used to tease that he was a Jun Ki-lite, and … Continue reading →
I know I’ve been bitching about Han Ga In in The Moon that Embraces the Sun, but it’s not because I don’t like her. I loved her in Bad Guy, and even in her crappy dramas and/or performances, I’ve never grown annoyed with her much. She’s like this really pretty slightly detached wallflower in those situations. I was a little … Continue reading →
It’s been a miserable two years for CTS, which hasn’t had a hit drama since 2010’s Hi, My Sweetheart, which was terrible but drew the crowds because of Rainie Yang and Show Luo‘s popularity and great onscreen chemistry. The last CTS drama I watched was Ring Ring Bell, which started off promising enough but quickly went batshit insane and down … Continue reading →
I’ve got such low standards for J-doramas these days, because the favorite genre I grew up with has become a beast nearing extinction while the landscape is littered with depressing dramas about the meaning of life or cop/doctor/serial killer shows up the truckload. I long for my diehard romances, Japan! But occasionally I do enjoy the other stuff as well, … Continue reading →
Just look at that face, Xing Ren! How can you not forgive him for keeping a little secret from you. And Zi Qi even dressed up Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma in matching reindeer outfits. Gah, so insanely cute! Office Girls is right at the cusp of ending its wildly successful run and I’m sensing the drama isn’t going to drag anything … Continue reading →
Feast of the Gods with Sung Yuri and Joo Sang Wook released a second teaser this week, which was definitely more engaging than the first one, but for all the wrong reasons. Wow was it makjangy to the core, what with the suspenseful music, crying, screaming, yelling, and general aura of pain and frustration littered in a measly 30 seconds. … Continue reading →
Instead of writing this recap I was out actually talking about dramas with friends for a change. In explaining my interest in watching The Moon that Embraces the Sun, I chalked it up to a hankering for easy to digest not too complicated black and white fare. This isn’t your grandma’s sageuk, it’s more like a sageuk made for kids … Continue reading →
Now that the Lunar New Year movies have come and gone, it’s time to look forward to the next big holiday movie, the Valentine’s Day flick. LOVE by Director Doze Niu has been getting hyped up for awhile due to it’s superstar-laden cast, with a series of love stories that recalls Hollywood movies like Love Actually. I thought the previews … Continue reading →
Ahhh, I totally miss Jae Hee, Yoon Si Yoon‘s character from his last drama Me Too, Flower! While the drama was much better than expected, but fell victim to a splotchy second half, I loved every minute of Yoon Si Yoon’s performance as the wounded and valiently trying to survive self-made chaebol who longs for sincere human connection. The drama … Continue reading →
