This was always going to be an ambitious drama production, with many CGII elements needed and a dark tone that would needed to be balanced for the majority K-drama viewing populace. That it’s initial leading lady pick had to bow out due to her poor real life behavior scandal was enough to delay everything. Now it’s back on track and … Continue reading →
This is such sweet happy news and adds a bit of positivity when viewing the normally superficial underpinnings of the Korean idol pop world. Big Bang member and solo singer Taeyang and his actress wife Min Hyo Rin are expecting their first child together. The news was confirmed and she’s currently 9 month pregnant so it’s basically any day now. … Continue reading →
Well this is random and I wonder who is the target audience? tvN will be airing a second season of fall 2020’s fantasy romance drama Tale of Gumiho (Tale of the Nine-tailed) which thoroughly confounded me when it aired. There were glimpses of something MORE that could have made the drama work but what aired was just blergh. I liked … Continue reading →
I’m so glad other readers suggested I stick with Yumi’s Cells after the tonally disparate first episode, saying the second episode gets a lot better. It did, and now I can say episodes 3-4 gets even way better. The story is really such a small circle of Yumi and the men in her life, first her small crush on her … Continue reading →
I hope everyone had a great Chuseok/Mid-Autumn week because it better have been good to make me not go rabidly angry that the family holiday led to a one week preemption of airing new episodes of SBS Mon-Tues drama Lovers of the Red Sky (Hong Chun Gi). I was kinda close to turning into my version of the red eyed … Continue reading →
The success of Netflix drama Squid Game is like the gift that keeps on giving, bringing more recognition of Korean dramas worldwide and now also being a platform for rising and/or perennial supporting leads to step up into the broader popularity. Case in point the three younger actors in Squid Game – Jung Ho Yeon, Wi Ha Joon, and Lee … Continue reading →
Getting new or occasional viewers to check out K-dramas necessitates a story that is universal in connection but it must overcome subtitles and the general cheesiness factor that most still associate with it. A good title helps and the upcoming Netflix K-drama adaptation of the SM tinged webtoon Moral Sense was well on its way to adding modern spicy until … Continue reading →
If some viewers have issues and rightly see similarities to Netflix recently premiere K-drama Squid Game to other prior works, the story and concept of upcoming Netflix drama Hellbound (To Hell) appears solely original. I do not recall any other story like it based on the concept and now the first preview. The first teaser for Hellbound dropped this weekend … Continue reading →
I’m sorry but WTF is this? One would not expect newly premiered KBS weekend drama Gentleman and Young Lady to have this type of frankly gross misstep but here we are in 2021 still dealing with really bad set ups. The drama stars Ji Hyun Woo as a widower with three kids who hires a bright young live in nanny … Continue reading →
I love me a black horse and the breakout in the second weekend of a jam packed premiere slot last week is none other than SBS Fri-Sat drama One the Woman. Starring Honey Lee and Lee Sang Yoon, the drama was lagging behind MBC action powerhouse The Veil (Black Sun) in pre-premiere anticipation but has broken out in the ratings … Continue reading →
I wonder if I lived too long to see a concept and immediate associate with it something very similar. Netflix has started filming for its original programming K-movie Carter starring Joo Won and Lee Sung Jae. The story is about a special agent who awakens from a slumber with all his memories lost, and get thrown into a suspicious mission … Continue reading →
Well this will certainly get the K-netz in a frenzy, I’ll just sit back with the popcorn. K-ent is reporting that K-actor Kim Jung Hyun has signed with a new agency Story J, five months after his big scandal that started with an agency dispute, he wanted to leave and sign with a new agency, his agency didn’t want him … Continue reading →
I know the Big Three networks still “try” and produce rom-coms but it’s been a steady stream of lackluster attempts that never capture the early aughts charm of the Hallyu rom-com of that era. I can’t say the just premiered KBS rom-com Dali and the Cocky Prince (Dalri and Gamjatang) will herald a return to form, after all it’s just … Continue reading →
