The 2021 Baeksang Arts Award nominations came out five days ago but I didn’t have a chance to write about it since the news was overshadowed by the hullabaloo that was the production of MBC drama Time and things surrounding it. This year’s nominations were solid but still plenty to discuss especially with real life scandal with one nominee. The … Continue reading →

First Teasers for Doom at Your Service Immediately Bring Sweet OTP Scenes Between Park Bo Young and Seo In Guk

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

I think the production of upcoming tvN drama Doom at Your Service know that the make or break of this drama is going to be in the emotional connection and resonance of the two lead characters. That’s why all the posters are of Seo In Guk and Park Bo Young and the first two teasers also highlight the inexplicable path … Continue reading →

Well this is a breath of much needed fresh air. The South Korean government handed out a commendation today to two popular K-stars, actor Jo Jung Seok and actress Park Min Young. Son Ye Jin in Talks to Join Jeon Mi Do in K-drama Thirty Nine About the Lives and Loves of Three Female Friends

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

This casting news feels like a great female-centric drama is being assembled with smart casting. K-actress Son Ye Jin is in talks for the K-drama Thirty Nine, where she’s playing the female lead who is actually 39 years old so the title refers to age, I think the premise is female friends on the cusp of 40 and their love … Continue reading →

Kim Jung Hyun Posts Handwritten Apology Letter for His Bad Attitude and Behavior Surrounding K-drama Time

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

When a time in your life comes when you behave in a way that is screwing up so bad, the only way forward is to own up to it completely. Apologize, reflect, learn, grow, and don’t ever repeat. K-actor Kim Jung Hyun‘s career in the last four years has been such a rollercoaster and while I really like him as … Continue reading →

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

The release continues for the K-actor 200 list, the 5th release with the second half of the compilation left to come. It’s always interesting to see the cool collection in each release and this one has plenty of diversity and talent across the board. Hyun Bin and Kim Hee Ae are probably the biggest names in the actor and actress … Continue reading →

Ga Jin Tries To Hold Shit Together in Episode 18 of River Where the Moon Rises as All the Men Continue to Emo in Their Own Pit of Misery

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

I finally realized that Daddy King has turned into the progenitor of where all the male characters in River Where the Moon Rises is going, i.e. moping, drinking, seeing dead people, and generally being USELESS while the women keep shit together. Ga Jin/Princess Pyeonggang remains my sole sanity in this drama, she’s not just kickass, smart, sensible, she’s also capable … Continue reading →

Production of OCN Drama Island Confirms Seo Ye Ji’s Departure and Will Look for New Female Lead, Brand Sponsor Also Begin to Drop Her Campaign

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

The Ji Soo fallout took all of four days, I think Joseon Exorcist getting cancelled took three days, and now in less than two days Seo Ye Ji has gone from newly minted Baeksang Best Actress nominee to persona non grata in K-ent. I don’t know if she’s done permanently or will go on hiatus to try and make a … Continue reading →

Seo Ye Ji’s Agency Releases Statement that the Texts with Kim Jung Hyun are Just Fighting Between Couple But Denies the Education and Bullying Controversies, and K-ent is Reporting that She Will Leave OCN Drama Island with Kim Nam Gil

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

I’ve been through countless K-scandals and the process is always the same: shocking reveal, silence, either admit but add explanation or admit some part of it/deny others, and finally apologize and reflect. Seo Ye Ji may have been pulled into the conflict between Kim Jung Hyun and his current agency which he is trying to leave, and therefore text messages … Continue reading →

First Look at Namgoong Min Filming MBC Action Drama Black Sun

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

Seeing a drama take one fantasy/sci-fi concept and do it as well as tvN drama Awaken (Night and Day) did feels even more special in light of watching the burning dumpster fire that was Sisyphus: The Myth. Awaken dealt with immortality and did do a solid job of stringing together the mystery, piecemeal reveals, and decently satisfying conclusion. I do … Continue reading →

The Attempted Coup in Episode 17 of River Where the Moon Rises Deflates Like a Souffle as Both Male Leads Hie Off to Angst Afterwards

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

Remember when what happened to KBS drama River Where the Moon Rises was like the biggest news in K-ent? Oh what a month does to keep one upping another in terms of wild news and crazy scandals. River has now settled back down to just being a mediocre sageuk that might have actually benefitted from losing a leading man, it … Continue reading →

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

This week’s news report that K-actress Seo Ye Ji was the alleged ex-girlfriend to Kim Jung Hyun who played a controlling role in the Time drama production debacle three years ago could not have come at a worse time for her. Her agency has not released a statement responding to the allegations first reported by Dispatch nearly 24 hours ago, … Continue reading →
