So long to two of the three currently airing Wed-Thurs K-dramas, and especially to the massive Pan-Asia hit Descendants of the Sun for bringing back eight weeks of what felt like the heydays of the ratings past. DotS made drama watching into a collective experience again as viewers tuned in during live television broadcasts and sent the ratings increasing week … Continue reading →
I’ve definitively found the first choice in my next K-drama to follow and it’s Entertainer thanks to the latest preview showing scenes from the first episode. It looks so earnest and entertaining (pardon the title pun), with Ji Sung owning the screen as he alternates between put upon and extending a life line. With the end of Please Come Back … Continue reading →
Cute idol boys and the cherry blossoms of spring certainly make for a pretty picture, and the glimpse of Seoul landmark Namsan Tower in the backdrop adds even more feels. SM artists Choi Siwon and Donghae of Super Junior along with the label mate Changmin of DBSK were out with two more friends during their vacation day from military service. … Continue reading →
This was a most surreal episode of Descendants of the Sun, even on top of it being the penultimate episode that needed to set things in motion for the final swan song hurrah. This was an episode of things happening that for the life of me I can’t join together coherently beyond – shit happens and then everyone reacts to … Continue reading →
Thanks to the surfeit of Song-Song appeal, the 15th and second to last episode of Descendants of the Sun hit a new ratings high today. The drama brought in 34.8% ratings, on a night with national assembly election results and no competition from the other two dramas as SBS elected to preempt Please Come Back Ahjusshi and MBC did the … Continue reading →
I bow at the awesome altar of Ji Sung, how can he so effortlessly sell so many different interactions? I suppose it’s not a surprise since he convincingly sold 7 different personalities in Kill Me Heal Me, but in upcoming SBS Wed-Thurs drama Entertainer he’s oozing connection with all three costars Hyeri, Chae Jung Ahn, and Kang Min Hyuk. Maybe … Continue reading →
Oh man, this is one K-drama that that’s doing a 180 going from casting purgatory hot mess unable to land a male lead to gathering an amazingly talented group together in the end. The Mon-Tues ratings race got shook up in this third week of airing, with KBS‘s Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul Ho taking the lead followed by Monster on … Continue reading →
Jung Eun Ji is that rare breed of entertainer that I like in any medium I’ve seen her. She’s refreshingly real in girl group A Pink, energetic and relatable as an actress in dramas, and visually distinctive in ad campaigns as a model. It’s a bit of a curiosity that her career hasn’t rocketed to new heights after her mainstream … Continue reading →
It’s a bit disconcerting to see how insanely popular Song Joong Ki has become. Only time will tell if his Descendants of the Sun mass fame will continue for years on end like Kim Soo Hyun has ridden his You From Another Star wave. It’s undisputed that Song Joong Ki is the current It Face of Hallyu entertainment so it … Continue reading →
It’s a wrap for the pre-produced KBS drama Uncontrollably Fond, following in the same production trajectory footsteps as current same network smash hit Descendants of the Sun. Uncontrollably Fond has been filming since late December and finished up this past week right as the spring starts descending in full. The two famous leads Kim Woo Bin and Suzy were snapped … Continue reading →
Taiwan’s cable network PTV is doing a phenomenal sounding drama series of one-episode shorts featuring the the most influential music and acting talent. Starting April 9th, Rock Records in Love premieres with individual episodes all featuring a famous song from the label Rock Records, home of some of Taiwan’s most popular recording artists. Leading off with episode one is Rainie … Continue reading →
Politics remains a hot topic in South Korea even as Hallyu and entertainment is big business these days. Whenever there is a big election things either grind to a halt or the drama broadcast looks annoyingly marred with election results. Both are happening this Wednesday April 13th as the election for National Assembly candidates takes place in Korea. On KBS, … Continue reading →
Even after Answer Me 1988 I don’t find Hyeri a truly talented actress (yet), but one thing she’s delivering in spades is chemistry with her male leads. She had loads of sizzle with both Ryu Jun Yeol and Park Bo Gum, so it’s not a surprise to see her already looking compatible with both Ji Sung and Kang Min Hyuk … Continue reading →
