C-dramas has a new big hit on its hands and continues the legend of C-actress Sun Li popularity and savvy in picking projects. Her Legend of Zhen Huan remains an iconic work of the past decade in terms of court period dramas and two years ago she did the Legend of Mi Yue with also popular success. Now she’s back … Continue reading →
The drama adaptation of Nirvana in Fire was such a smashing critical and popular success it’s a no brainer to make a sequel, lesser received dramas have spawn follow ups but this one comes with heavy expectations that will be hard to match. The exact same production team is back for Nirvana in Fire 2 (Wind Rises From Chang Lin) … Continue reading →
This Monday August 28th is Chinese Valentine’s Day, annually the 7th day of the 7th month in the lunar calendar when the weaver girl and the cow herder boy meet in the Milky Way. C-dramas are having a field day sharing new OTP stills either for currently airing dramas or even ones that are still filming. All my attention is … Continue reading →
I can’t believe I’m already perched to jump ship from the Ye Hua-Bai Qian forever sailing into happily ever after barge. But while Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms remains perfection life goes on and one needs to look forward to new projects to come and none are more visually enticing than period C-drama Legend of Fuyao (Empress … Continue reading →
Concept posters don’t need to make or break the project to come but for a veteran entertainment consumer like me it definitely adds a level of appreciation if I see something creative or executed well. I’m loving the teaser character posters for upcoming fantasy C-drama The King of Blaze, adapted from the manhua by Taiwanese artist You Su Lan from … Continue reading →
School’s starting again and it also feels like the drama train is coming to life as many Taiwan actors and actresses have upcoming dramas to look forward to. Adding a new one to the lineup with a big name director and cast but on a more du jour platform – Director Winnie of In Time With You and It Started … Continue reading →
I appreciate that Chinese entertainment has the production scale to tackle period dramas and movies and make it look plausible. That doesn’t solve the problem of bad scripts and uneven directing but the set pieces and scale size are there so there is always the hope of making a good drama that also doesn’t cut corners on visuals. Upcoming fantasy … Continue reading →
It’s been so long since I’ve reported on a truly exciting Taiwanese idol drama that I almost had to rub my eyes when I saw the news today to make sure it was true. Indeed it is as idol drama veterans Rainie Yang and Blue Lan are returning to television later this year for the GTV series My Ex-Man, with … Continue reading →
While K-drama ratings have been down in the past five years consistently year after year, with 2012 in my mind as the last year ratings could get above 20% for more than just one or two prime time dramas a year, C-dramas haven’t yet reached its peak or decline, and in fact is still on the upward trajectory for its … Continue reading →
There’s an optimism in the air again with upcoming period C-dramas whether wuxia or fantasy, which for me has almost always been unwatchable with so much tackiness and uneven and silly world building narrative. The C-drama adaptation of Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms (Eternal Love) changed all that and on the acting front is owed all the … Continue reading →
Casting is underway, or at least prepping for casting is underway for the Taiwan drama remake of its own hit classic Meteor Garden, adapted from the well known shoujo manga Hana Yori Dango (Boys Before Flowers). The 2001 drama launched the careers of all five leads Da S, Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Ken Zhu, and Vanness Wu from near unknowns … Continue reading →
New movie posters are out for the upcoming theatrical adaption of fantasy romance novel Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossom and it continues to look engaging in its own way. I really don’t stack it next to the mega hit C-drama version with Yang Mi and Mark Chao, a fifty-some episode longer narrative is apples to a two … Continue reading →
One of the sweetest elements of the story in Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms is the princely baby boy of the leads who plays adorable matchmaker to bring his love torn parents back together again. Audiences are suckers for a precocious tyke who just happens to have the challenging and satisfying taste of reuniting two lovers who … Continue reading →
