Writing about Yumi’s Cells is hard because it doesn’t lend itself to any singular bucket of good, bad, weird, etc. Six episodes in it’s a layer cake, a beautifully constructed one with plenty of surprises but it’s not the full meal we may want for a balanced diet. Episodes 5-6 continue to move the Yumi-Woong romance light speed ahead, with … Continue reading →
The largesse of the success of Netflix drama Squid Game has benefitted every single cast members, as written about before everyone’s Instagram followers rose exponentially. But probably the biggest breakout from the supporting cast has to be model turned actress Jung Ho Yeon (known as Ho Yeon Jung in Hollywood) who played the North Korean defector. Her Insta increased the … Continue reading →
It feels like the a scrum with the sageuk crowding so upcoming SBS romance drama Now, We are Breaking Up may be the right modern drama to break up the period domination. Filming has kicked off for the K-movie Land of Happiness, which is so talent packed it makes me squee with joy. The movie will headline Jo Jung Seok, Lee Seon Kyun, and Yoo Jae Myung, each a male lead on his own and together a triumvirate of the nicest group of best K-actors around. The movie is about a lawyer … Continue reading →
Sageuk romances are by nature restrained and less is said/done is more presentation due to the characters living in an historical era of emphasis on etiquette and form. The upcoming MBC drama The Red Sleeve Cuff seems to be taking that to the extreme, it’s sooooooo implied that the new poster above seems to have court lady Lee Se Young … Continue reading →
Okay, I legit LOVE this poster. It’s not original per se but it just washes over me with this epic period romantic vibe for upcoming jTBC drama Snowdrop. The first official poster is out for the drama headlining Jung Hae In and idol turned actress Jisoo in her first acting role, with supporting leads Jang Seung Jo, Yoo In Na, … Continue reading →
It’s funny to see Western media write about Netflix K-drama Squid Game and lead Lee Jung Jae as if it’s his first foray with blockbuster fame. In a worldwide level for sure, but he’s been a top movie star in South Korea for nearly three decades and is so famous he’s often taken cameo/guest starring/villain roles in recent years to … Continue reading →
I’m starting to get nervous/excited for the upcoming KBS sageuk The King’s Affection, the more promos I see the more I find the set up totally swoony yet the more I’m super wary of idol-actor Ro Woon tackling his first headlining sageuk role. I think he’s shown plenty of potential and delivered enough in each of the dramas I’ve seen … Continue reading →
I thought things were dying down in C-ent after the summer of scandals and crackdowns, but this early fall may bring with it clarity for who and for what reasons certain stars are no longer going to be allowed to continue being in the entertainment industry in China. A list is spreading like wildfire that includes the names of 25 … Continue reading →
The second week of KBS Wed-Thurs rom-com Dali and the Cocky Prince (Dal Ri and Gamjatang) has the drama building on an unexpectedly solid premiere character and relationship setting to take it one step further. The Indian summer is finally over and the stirrings of fall footsteps are starting to head my way. It’s all about weather and romance for upcoming Office Romance Cruelty set in the meteorological office bureau and starring Park Min Young and Song Kang. I’m glad the drama is still filming so there is a bigger break between what felt like … Continue reading →

Okay, I need an official name for this drama because there are so many translations. Filming has commenced for upcoming sageuk drama Youth, Glancing at the Moon (Youth, Climbing Over the Wall) which less important than what the title means is that the drama was what would have been the K-drama adaptation of the C-novel The Golden Hairpin. The direct … Continue reading →
