It’s a one in and one out in K-drama casting news today so let’s start with the news that gives drama fans something to look forward to. K-actress Ha Ji Won has confirmed her casting for upcoming big budget political action thriller drama Prometheus. It’s the story about a plan to denuclearize the Korean peninsula and the intelligence agents trying … Continue reading →
When I heard of this upcoming K-drama I almost keeled over from laughing too hard. I can’t even K-ent is still trying to do a tense big-budget politics and war themed drama after failing so many times prior. IRIS is probably the pinnacle of execution and a tight story line but then it had plenty of flaws, not to mention … Continue reading →
The bad news keeps on coming from K-drama production sets in the last month. There was the critical ladder fall accident in December of a crew member for Hwayugi who was hospitalized and suffered paralysis of the lower half. Now there is news that a 33 year old crew member on the set of pre-produced zombie sageuk drama Kingdom has … Continue reading →
Manner legs, or when a super tall entertainer stands in an open-legged stance to lower himself, is such a unique Korean thing. I don’t recall seeing tall stars in other entertainment industries doing the pose to adjust for height differentials in scenes or allow the make up artist to freshen things up on the set. I suppose the other industries … Continue reading →
There’s a new number 2 in town and it came right at the very end on the last day of the year. On December 31st, the fantasy movie Along With the Gods surpassed 8 million tickets sold in the theaters, putting it in the second highest grossing box office K-movie of 2017 just ahead of Confidential Assignment. First place remains … Continue reading →
The year end holiday season will have a star-studded big-budget K-movie to look forward to, and hopefully end the Korean box office for 2017 on a high note. Fantasy death movie Along With the Gods (Two Worlds) is adapted from the same name webtoon about the death trials of a firefighter played by Cha Tae Hyun who experiences the trials … Continue reading →
The casting trading card game is moving fast with this one, which makes sense as filming is scheduled to commence in early October. A day after news that Song Joong Ki has ultimately passed on headlining screenwriter Kim Eun Hee‘s next drama Kingdom, a new leading man has been found in Joo Ji Hoon. He’s been primarily doing movies for … Continue reading →
The premiere of a male leads packed K-movie like Asura City of Madness is certainly going to bring out the bromance friends to support the cast. To even things out plenty of female stars also arrived for the red carpet VIP premiere of the thriller movie starring Jung Woo Sung, Hwang Jung Min, and Joo Ji Hoon. Two of 2016’s … Continue reading →
It’s quite the ensemble of fashion fail that gathered in Seoul this week for the 2016 collection from brand Gentle Monster. Some may love the eclectic looks but every single major star in attendance crossed that fine line between fashionably kooky and fashionably silly. Sadly it’s all stars I like so I couldn’t help but cringe and keep on clicking … Continue reading →
In time for the holidays and some feel good perseverance cheer comes the K-movie The Himalayas, a mountaineering tale based on a true story of a Korean expedition to find the body of a good friend who died up there. Starring Hwang Jung Min, Jung Woo, Jo Sung Ha, and Kim In Kwon, the movie held it’s premiere this week … Continue reading →
I’m not particularly interested in the upcoming SBS Wed-Thurs melodrama Mask, but that’s not indicative of what I think of the drama quality potential and more my preference for rom-coms especially during the warmer seasons. Mask follows after The Girl Who Sees Smells so won’t be hitting the small screens until June but that hasn’t stopped SBS from getting a … Continue reading →
I’m finding 2014 a better year for K-dramas so far than 2013 was during the same period of time, but 2014 hasn’t yielded the bumper crop of K-celeb dating couples as 2013 did. One can argue 2014 made up for the lack of quantity with the increase in quality in the sense that it was more high profile stars finding … Continue reading →
This week is simultaneously a very slow week in K-dramaland since there isn’t a new drama premiering, but also a very anxious week for the fans of The Master’s Sun which is wrapping up in mere hours. Two Weeks ended last week on MBC so its follow up drama the geniuses-in-one-hospital medical drama Medical Top Team was slated to premiere … Continue reading →
