The battle is fierce to be the 7th member of the exclusive Golden Eagle Goddess ranks, even if it means being decked out in enough gold, sparkles, and sequins to blind good taste. The biennial Golden Eagle Awards celebrates China’s top television shows, dramas, and acting, with the award having a Golden Eagle Goddess to open the proceedings starting in … Continue reading →
The fantasy parable of the fairy who lost her wings is quite popular in many Asian cultures and is always problematic in any retelling for the modern sensibility. She comes down from the Heavens, takes off all her clothes including her magical fairy cloth wings to take a bath in the mountain lake, and a human woodcutter spots her and … Continue reading →
There is a palpable disconcerting vibe when it comes to covering upcoming KBS W web drama That Time When Time Stops solely because of the male lead chosen. Is that a savvy or foolish move on the part of the production team, only time will tell but for a K-drama blogger it’s like being stuck between a rock and an … Continue reading →
I’m not quite sure if this is the most prudent casting decision but it certainly makes for popcorn watching from the sidelines fun potential. KBS has cast Go Hyun Jung to join confirmed leading man Park Shin Yang for the upcoming second season of Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul Ho. I figured the original drama’s leading lady Kang Sora had moved … Continue reading →
If this week’s sad showing of mostly second and third tier K-stars at the Korean Drama Awards, then it was the exact opposite at the opening night red carpet of the 2018 Busan International Film Festival where I felt so much high profile faces beaming for the cameras. The hosting MCs Kim Nam Gil and Han Ji Min walked the … Continue reading →
The Wed-Thurs time slot remains a ratings depressed zone and I’m not feeling optimistic that the upcoming KBS drama Happy if You Died will inject a boost to the proceedings even if I love the dark humor of its drama title. Happy if You Died is an office drama with Kang Ji Hwan playing an arrogant awful boss that all … Continue reading →
The titular Boyfriend, and his onscreen girlfriend, sat across from each other at the script reading for the upcoming tvN drama. Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo are currently in picturesque Cuba filming the overseas location shoot portion of the drama and tvN released the script reading stills from last month as the cast gathered to run through their … Continue reading →
I would love to say with certainty that the number of times someone asked for Kim Hyun Joong to be back on television starring in a K-drama would be like never. But sadly I can’t say that because the disgraced idol-actor still has fans and those fans will likely be happy that he’s staging a comeback in K-ent one step … Continue reading →
So the tax prosecution of C-actress Fan Bing Bing may have been the hammer coming down hard with repaying of owed taxes and then double that amount in penalties and fines, but her case is just the tip of the iceberg. Chinese tax authorities reportedly have started investigating other top stars with the barometer that anyone paid over US $2 … Continue reading →
I think it’s so funny that cable channel ratings have longer decimals than prime time because I’m so tempted to round up to 4% the first episode ratings of 3.996% garnered by tvN Wed-Thurs drama Hundred Million Stars Falling From the Sky. That’s a really decent start on cable and even beat the KBS drama The Ghost Detective which is … Continue reading →
K-movie The Great Battle has won the battle (har har) for the box office in a high profile Chuseok holiday three-way skirmish with two other big star helmed movies. Jo In Sung’s sageuk bloody epic The Great Battle came in first in the South Korean box office, with 4.52 million admissions over a 12 day release period. The other sageuk … Continue reading →
The world is split into dog people and cat people and while I think both types are entitled to their furry love preferences I’m a billion percent a dog person. Or a dog sister/mother for three decades now and I can’t help but stop and coo over a dog on the street and click on every stupid dog meme. That’s … Continue reading →
Welp, it’s officially hammer time in C-ent, or at least I think this should lead to a widespread purge of what is realistically a common occurrence. C-actress Fan Bing Bing has been the subject of intense media coverage for the past 3 months since a tabloid reported on “yin-yang” contracts in C-ent, pointed the finger at her in particular, and … Continue reading →
