The penultimate week airing of tvN weekend fantasy drama Hwayugi (A Korean Odyssey) happens to hit during the closing weekend of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. The ratings were 3.821% for episode 17, a drop from the previous episode 16, and episode 18 went back up to 5.472%. I hope next week’s finale goes back up to 6% at … Continue reading →
The real domino effect is here with the K-ent reckoning of the #metoo movement where victims of sexual harassment and even worse are finally voicing their stories aloud and the perpetrators are paying the price. Today another takes accountability in veteran K-actor Choi Il Hwa, whose name may not be readily familiar but whose face definitely is for K-drama watchers … Continue reading →
This is really digging deep into the adaptation bucket to look for source material that honestly wasn’t even that popular to begin with. K-dramas is finally adapting the shoujo manga Zettai Kareshi (Absolute Boyfriend) this year, exactly ten years after Japan did the J-dorama version with Hayami Mokomichi, Aibu Saki, and Mizushima Hiro. It’s about a girl who orders a … Continue reading →
Nam Joo Hyuk is one of those faces I could stare at for a long time, it’s manly and beautiful at the same time and has slight breaks in symmetry to male for an artist’s dissection. Too bad he’s so behind at being a good actor, with more than half a dozen dramas under his belt, with two being the … Continue reading →
This was a light speed finality to a sexual harassment allegation and one that heads in the right direction. Veteran stage-movie-drama actor Jo Jae Hyun has admitted to the sexual harassment allegations against him, and even went so far as to say that he’s admitting and repenting for his actions in the past thirty years of his career. He issued … Continue reading →
This drama casting news sounds great, and also gives me a reason to post about Yeo Jin Goo‘s awesome black and white 1st Look pictorial from last year. The no longer a boy but not yet a man young actor has reportedly signed on for his first rom-com leading man role, in a summer 2018 drama called Just One Love. … Continue reading →
When I first saw the stills of male lead Lee Seung Gi for Hwayugi (A Korean Odyssey) it was a mixture of squee and meh, the ostentatious fur coat and funky v-shaped buzz cut was an odd combo. Two months later and I’ve grown to love his look for this drama, and love even more the totality of the outfits … Continue reading →
The #metoo movement has firmly arrived in South Korean entertainment. On the heels of actor Jo Min Ki getting fired from his faculty position at a university and getting scrubbed from the K-drama Children of a Lesser God, two more veteran actors are facing their own sexual harassment allegations. Character actor Oh Dal Soo and award-winning veteran leading man Jo … Continue reading →
I may be in the minority but I really liked IU‘s performance in Producer. It was one of her better roles, perhaps buoyed by good chemistry with Kim Soo Hyun, but either way the cold Cindy was a smart pick for IU. She’s playing a cold character again in upcoming tvN drama My Ahjusshi, with three male lead ahjusshis around … Continue reading →
This is one of the reunions of sorts that came out of the blue and surprisingly I’m cool with it. Cable network tvN has confirmed that Ji Sung and Han Ji Min are both confirmed for upcoming drama Knowing Wife. It’s a romance with a fantasy twist to it and these days it feels like there is always a fantasy … Continue reading →
It definitely feels like a jam packed week of K-drama casting news, and this one took me by surprise. So Ji Sub is in talks for early fall 2018 MBC Wed-Thurs drama tentatively called Terius Behind Me. No further word on story line or type of drama but the PD did Come Jang Bori! and To the Beautiful You working … Continue reading →
It’s another month and another pictorial for uber popular K-actress Park Shin Hye, this one wonderful in showcasing varying styles and backdrops. Marie Claire Korea released a four picture spread that could be viewed as a Park Shin Hye for four very different occasions. There’s the casual girl next door just out for a stroll, the put together businesswoman taking … Continue reading →
This is one of those casting reports I hope becomes true later on even if it’s still up in the air right now. K-ent is reporting that Lee Seung Gi is going straight from filming tvN fantasy drama Hwayugi into filming another drama airing later this year called Vagabond (or Drifter). After news broke Lee Seung Gi’s agency confirmed that … Continue reading →
