I haven’t checked in with the Korean advertising association monthly star CF rankings but October is a nice point to see how things have changed, or haven’t, now that the year is wrapping up. The October rankings keep top Hallyu movie star Gong Yoo on top, still riding the high of last year’s Train to Busan with added boost from … Continue reading →
The details are trickling out about actor Kim Joo Hyuk‘s fatal car accident on Monday October 30th, cutting his life short at a much too young age of 45 years old. There were reports that he suffered a heart attack while driving but the hospital performed and autopsy with the results being head trauma as the cause of death. Further … Continue reading →
This week felt a bit surreal in K-ent, with so many events happening both joyful and sorrowful it reminds me of the lovely British movie of the 90’s Four Weddings and a Funeral. This Tuesday October 31st is Halloween for us in the US but in South Korean entertainment it was the star wedding of the year with Song Joong … Continue reading →
The first look at actress Chae Soo Bin in upcoming MBC drama I am Not a Robot is out and count me intrigued. She looks super doll-like in her styling and surprisingly believable as a girl pretending to be a robot. Her character crosses paths with Yoo Seung Ho‘s super wealthy and successful financial entrepreneur with a severe allergy to … Continue reading →
October 2017 is really ending on a downer with the car accident loss of a top movie and drama leading man, but life goes on and it’s with a optimistic heart to welcome back a top star who has been diligently serving his mandatory military service for the past 22 months. Actor-singer-variety star Lee Seung Gi was discharged on the … Continue reading →
I continue to follow along to the increasingly morose romantic travails of SBS Mon-Tues drama Temperature of Love. I get why certain viewers loved it from the start and continued to champion the drama even as my initially like turned to dislike fast. But now I really can’t see how viewers are still sticking with the story short of being … Continue reading →
I have horrible sad news to share with K-ent fans – movie and drama actor Kim Joo Hyuk passed away on Monday October 30th in Seoul, Korea. The 45 year old top actor was driving to his home in Gangnam around 4:30 pm in the afternoon when he reportedly struck another car and his car flipped over before falling down … Continue reading →
Recently I’m back to feeling like Shin Se Kyung cast in any drama is cause for consternation. If that’s too strong an opinion then it’s certainly a cause for concern, her last drama performance in Bride of the Water God was particularly blank and awful, the kind of performance that can erase goodwill and set herself back a couple of … Continue reading →
Actor-singer Rain is widely acknowledged as one of the hardest working entertainers in South Korea, with his career less overwhelming talent and more talent developed through hustle and grit. I like him because of his acting but it’s probably fair to say that he’s a better musical entertainer than actor on the technique scale. His presence and expressiveness can veer … Continue reading →
Leave it to top C-actress and noted fashionista Fan Bing Bing to slay yet again on a red carpet and remind the world that there is a way to dress for an occasion and not bore the heck out of the viewing public. Granted, sometimes Fan Bing Bing’s outfits can look too severe especially when she pulls all her hair … Continue reading →
Leave it to K-actress Shin Mina to make me think she simultaneously looks beautiful while horribly dressed. Maybe 2017 fall fashion is just going over my head but Shin Mina’s black turtleneck with hand ruffles paired with neon pink high waisted crop trousers at the Roger Vivier event in Seoul was basically boring on top and hot mess on bottom. … Continue reading →
This week K-ent decided to create a new awards show on top of the countless ones already in existence. The 1st ever Seoul Awards, not to be confused with the Seoul Drama Awards, took place this week to honor both movies and dramas. Taking home hardware were the following winners: in the drama category it was Secret Forest (Stranger) for … Continue reading →
Oguri Shun is hands down one of my most favorite J-actors and it’s only fitting that my favorite cop procedural in recent years has him headlining in a performance that really sticks with me long after. It’s been three years since the supernatural-tinged investigative J-dorama BORDER aired and I had long despaired of a much needed second season, but lo … Continue reading →
