I think we’re getting there to make it-or-break it territory for fans of Nodame’s Cantabile as the K-version barrels towards a premiere date in less than a week. I still remember the shrill cries many many months ago when the project was announced. Now it feels like everyone has accepted it with varying degrees of skepticism or optimism. I’ve said … Continue reading →
If I could drop kick My Secret Hotel into space, I most certainly would. I don’t necessarily hate this drama but it’s gotten so pointless and frustrating I think a circle around Earth would do it some good to find its axis again. I’m not dropping the recaps at this late hour but I won’t hold back on my tipped … Continue reading →
I love this unexpected casting twist so so much. After all that happened last week and it turns out to be much ado about nothing. Much sought after A-list leading man Hyun Bin has finally ended his television hiatus and will be coming back with a SBS prime time drama, the same network that his last drama Secret Garden aired on. … Continue reading →
Cha Seung Won is one of my early K-actor faves and continues on to this day when I’ll check out any drama if he’s in it. With that said, it’s shocking and sad to hear that he’s embroiled in a legal case aimed at unearthing his personal life privacy by turning it into something as makjang as a weekend K–drama birth … Continue reading →
The first episode gave us some insight into our three leads motivations and fears, and gave me enough of the flavor of the writing for me to want more. I knew before starting this drama that Kam Woo Sung could bring gravitas to the role of the sad husband who lost his wife. That was actually one of the reasons … Continue reading →
It’s fairly guaranteed that Shim Eun Kyung is going to steal my heart in Tomorrow’s Cantabile. She hasn’t had a failed acting performance yet and even playing iconic character Noda Megumi (Nodame) doesn’t seem like a stretch in her hands. This might be my favorite set of official drama stills released by KBS so far, the very memorable scene in … Continue reading →
I had read the Alphonse Daudet story a couple of weeks ago to see what Dong-ha was talking about. Here is one link to the full text. It is a short story, fittingly romantic and a little melancholic just like the Dong-ha we have come to know. It isn’t supposed be an action packed-story, but I found his love for the beautiful … Continue reading →
A low profile K-celeb couple got married this past week and if it wasn’t for one of my fave actresses in attendance might’ve slipped my radar. I’m glad it didn’t because So Yi Hyun and In Kyo Jin tying the knot was A-dorable from beginning to end. The two wore matching cheek-to-cheek grins with their entire face and body lighting … Continue reading →
It takes a long time to build up fame but one bad decision can tear it all down. Googling Kai Ko‘s name in English now gets an entire first results page about his pot smoking drug arrest in China and nothing about his meteoric rise acting career in the last three years. Luckily Kai’s legal woes are over for now, … Continue reading →
It probably seems like piling on at this point when it comes to bad news related to SM Entertainment but this latest tragic happening garners only condolences all around. SME chairman and founder Lee Soo Man‘s wife passed away after a three year fight against cancer. She was diagnosed in 2011 with cancer of the small intestines and since then … Continue reading →
It’s early October which means Busan International Film Festival time! There were sooooo many K-stars in attendance my eyes crossed trying to write up something about dresses and suits. How about highlighting the small but impressive Chinese-speaking contingent attending Busan involving some of my faves? Liu Shi Shi was there with TW-actor Joseph Chang and J-actor Miura Haruma to promote their … Continue reading →
I’ve been mostly zoned out of TW-dramas lately but this upcoming one merits checking out for the cast and darker story. The CTV drama X Lies (謊言遊戲) also called The Game of Lies pairs up Ella Chen of S.H.E. with one of my fave TW-actors Chris Wu for an incisive and potentially devastating look at the desire for fame. Ella … Continue reading →
What do I think of Bom-yi’s break up with Dong-wook? Do I wonder how she can dump her finance and boyfriend of several years so quickly? Not really. I think the answer is in the strength and depth of their connection. When she admits she accepted his proposal under stress from her parents, we actually see there aren’t a lot of profound … Continue reading →
