Well this is an interesting sounding drama and also a great casting choice. K-actor Park Seo Joon may be returning to the small screen soon as he’s been offered the male lead in upcoming thriller drama Kyungsung Creature (also known as Project K). The drama is set in a dystopian time period where people do not have the same broad … Continue reading →
It seemed ill-fitting to congratulate Lee Seung Gi‘s big night at the 2021 Baeksang Awards with my earlier post covering the acting/drama/movie sides since he was there not for his excellent performance in the not excellent Mouse but for his other gig, the variety show chameleon. He was nominated for Best Variety Star this year alongside the usual names and … Continue reading →
Oh thank god there are sane people in the government in South Korea. Despite it happening just two months ago, I feel like the news cycle has churned countless bigger scandals since SBS zombie sageuk Joseon Exorcist got yeeted out of existence after airing two episodes. The bruhaha was over the fictional portrayal of the famous King Taejong as suffering … Continue reading →
Thanks to the expertise of K-netizens we have another fun “pick your fave” topic – height differential. K-drama casting probably doesn’t take it into account but as viewers it’s definitely something that adds or detracts from the watch experience. I don’t mind same height leads if they have great body language chemistry and sometimes a super big height difference crosses … Continue reading →
Whatever my gripes are with tvN Wed-Thurs drama Mouse, it continues to keep me wanting to click watch on each episode so that’s a testament to the cast and the still to be revealed secrets I still want to know. This week’s episodes 18-19 was really a bunch of confirmation reveals on a lot of theories viewers have been speculating … Continue reading →
A nicely laudatory ceremony for the 2021 Baeksang Awards wrapped up tonight in South Korea and I’m pretty happy with the results. The Daesang went to Yoo Jae Suk for his continued exemplary work as a variety star and host, so it wasn’t given to the drama side. Beyond Evil took home Best Drama and male lead Shin Ha Kyun … Continue reading →
This is a fascinating poll result piece and usually the Japanese fans of K-dramas aren’t heard as much as the I-fans or C-netizens so I usually go by what gets high ratings when it airs over there to gauge popularity. A recent Japanese Hallyu fan poll of over 150,000 votes selected the Best K-drama OTPs and it’s clear that some … Continue reading →
The saga continues with K-actor Kim Jung Hyun‘s professional career catapult off a cliff. Two months ago it was revealed that he was in talks to sign with a new agency after his contract was soon to expire with original agency O & Entertainment. After that the media started to report on a bevy of negative news around him focusing … Continue reading →
The potential rubbernecking and torrent of criticism has now been avoided by what is the most practical decision that could be made. K-actress Seo Ye Ji will not attend in person this week’s Baeksang Arts Awards ceremony, which will be held with socially distanced attendees like last year. She won the public voting for Popularity Award Actress side, with Kim … Continue reading →
Go vote, peeps! Cable network jTBC is celebrating its 10th anniversary all year, and with it a new event is here to commemorate 10 years of airing quality and not-so-quality K-dramas. Voting is open to the public from now until May 23rd to select the favorite/best K-drama from the network’s roster. Each person can select up to three dramas. Not … Continue reading →
Another day another chatterable casting news on the wire. K-ent started Wednesday off reporting that rising young actress Han So Hee has been cast as the female lead of upcoming big budget high profile supernatural OCN drama Island, which would mean taking over the role vacated by disgraced actress Seo Ye Ji following the scandal from the reveal that she … Continue reading →
The year long continuation of COVID-19 has enacted its toll in good and bad ways with respect to marriage. I see surprise marriages, not surprising pregnancies, and sad announcements of divorce. Mandarin-speaking news coverage is calling it a triple whammy of divorce news all coming in about a week – C-stars Feng Shao Feng and Zhao Li Ying, ping pong … Continue reading →
South Korean dramas have no shortage of talented child actors and actresses but I would say 50% (probably more) do not continue their careers into adulthood and probably only 10% who do succeed in becoming adult lead level. It’s a shame because watching K-dramas for two decades shows me that grown up child actors are a billion percent better suited … Continue reading →
