From the rumors to the confirmation of casting, upcoming SBS fantasy drama Legend of the Blue Sea is taking actual shape and form unlike the mystical mermaid at the center of the tale. The drama has the one-two-three punch of being from the screenwriter Park Ji Eun of You From Another Star and Producer, and starring top Hallyu stars Lee … Continue reading →
I love the first character stills of male lead Joo Sang Wook in upcoming jTBC drama Fantastic, right now if I elect to check out the drama it’s all on account of him. Joo Sang Wook is going back to his unexpected comedic roots, playing a self-absorbed top Korean actor who sucks at acting but doesn’t know it, lol. The … Continue reading →
The return of Jang Geun Seok to K-ent this year is by and large a resounding success, this after his attempt last year while doing Three Meals a Day: Fishing Village was scuttled due to fallout from a previous tax scandal. This year in 2016 he started off on hit music show Produce 101, then did the SBS sageuk Jackpot (The … Continue reading →
I figured it was too quiet in K-stars dating news, and too much grody scandals that need something cute to wash away the stench. Idol stalker tabloid publication Dispatch is shaking up the dog days of summer with the unexpected photographic proof that two popular idols have found young romance with each other. AOA‘s Seolhyun and rapper Zico of Block … Continue reading →
I’ll assume that KBS is trying to out-flower boy SBS with its sageuk Hwarang: The Beginning versus the K-version of Bu Bu Jing Xin that is Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart: Ryeo. Moon Lovers will be all done airing by the time Hwarang arrives at the end of December, so for audiences there is simply more pretty to be had, and … Continue reading →
It’ll be interesting to see if cable network tvN can hit ratings and buzz magic with yet another time-traveling drama so many years after Queen In Hyun’s Man and Nine: Nine Times Time Travel. Lead casting is done and production will soon be underway for tvN’s next time-travel themed drama Tomorrow With You, slated to air in January 2017 but … Continue reading →
It’s hard to really settle into the mere days long wait for the premiere of the K-version of Bu Bu Jing Xin, coming at the end of the month on August 30th, when the production has been in the works for well over a year. Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart: Ryeo (Bobogyungsim: Ryeo) waffles being playing up the sprawling cast of … Continue reading →
Someone stop the presses – we have the official candidate and front runner for cutest thing in K-drama land this year. Kim Yoo Jung in a pale pink sageuk, flower crown in her softly mussed hair, and cuddling a little puppy, is about the most wholesome visual nourishment to be gifted with. Not sure if her character in upcoming KBS … Continue reading →
Lee Sung Kyung is rather polarizing for me to watch as an actress, she’s definitely memorable onscreen but sometimes for the wrong reasons. The same came be said for Nam Joo Hyuk but in the exact opposite way, he’s definitely not memorable onscreen except in rare instances. That’s why it’s entertaining in a potential hot mess way that MBC has … Continue reading →
The first filming stills are out for the K-drama remake of classic early Hallyu wave K-drama 1% of Anything, with this remake hewing so close to the original that the writer of the source novel is adapting the story into the script for this go-around. The original was most notable for being movie actor Kang Dong Won‘s rare turns in … Continue reading →
The premise of currently filming period C-drama General and I is really one of female appreciation, and not with the visual gaze but with the mental connection. Adapted from popular C-novel A Lonesome Fragrance Waiting to be Appreciated (Gu Fang Bu Zhi Shang), it’s a warring states star-crossed romance that makes the gorgeous male lead the eye candy while the … Continue reading →
I’m so pleased to do a blog post on the drama wrap party for KBS Mon-Tues medical drama Beautiful Mind. It was as lowly rated as it gets for a prime time drama, with ratings averaging in the 4% range, and ended up with the most ignominious and egregious treatment of all by its very own network with an episode cut. … Continue reading →
The first Korean-Chinese release since the purported Chinese government ban/suspension of Hallyu-related entertainment has arrived and doesn’t appear to be affected in the least. Romance movie Never Said Goodbye (Chinese title Lies in Sicily) starring K-actor Lee Jun Ki, C-actress Zhou Dong Yu, and TW-actor Ethan Ruan held it’s premiere press conference this weekend in Beijing ahead of its August … Continue reading →
