Okay, this one I can totally chime in on! Today there is a K-news story around viewer complaints on MBC weekend drama Gold Spoon which is actually ending this week. It started off better than expected but then proceeded to tread water with a combination of swap lives/rinse-and-repeat as well as like a bajillion gold spoons all around with multiple … Continue reading →
So I’m 10-episodes into newly arrived youth romance C-drama Lighter and Princess adapted from a popular web novel and it’s as good a time to do a first impression now that the initial Douban ratings are out. It’s got a 7.2 ratings and that feels about right to me, 10-episodes in I like the drama but don’t (yet) love it. … Continue reading →
Man, it looks like oversharing and overshowing was the cause of the abrupt backlash on upcoming romance C-drama She and Her Perfect Husband. The drama starring Yang Mi and Xu Kai was scheduled to air last month before abruptly delaying the premiere a mere two days prior to release and now C-ent is reporting that the drama has gone back … Continue reading →
The just finished filming and highly anticipated Fox Spirit Matchmaker (涂山小红娘) with Yang Mi and Gong Jun is actually the first of three Fox Spirit Matchmaker dramas. That chapter is called the Yue Hong chapter (月红篇), and was supposed to go into production second behind the Zhu Ye chapter (竹业篇). But the Zhu Ye chapter with female lead Liu Shi … Continue reading →
Alrighty, a ton of currently filming C-dramas wrapped filming over the weekend so it’s time for goodies. The first is the fantasy supernatural drama The Demon Hunter’s Romance (Chinese title 無憂渡 which means Worry Free Ferry or to transport someone over the water without worry). It’s clearly referring to the afterlife where souls are ferried across the River of Forgetfulness … Continue reading →
The postponement of Yang Mi‘s drama She and Her Perfect Husband with Xu Kai may end up being great for her, as that drama is just a fluffy rom-com but now she gets to come back with the serious medical drama Thank You Doctor which is getting her rave reviews. The drama premiered this weekend and a 5-episode first day … Continue reading →
I see a theme but don’t know if its intentional or coincidental. Casting is finalized (waiting for official announcement) for the upcoming C-drama adaptation of the web novel Hidden God (Shen Yin 神隐) which is the sequel to the novel that was made into the drama Ancient Love Poetry. The male lead in Hidden God is the son of the … Continue reading →
Alrighty, I didn’t write Lost You Forever the novel, that would be Tong Hua with her amazingly lyrical words and vivid characters. But in translating the entire three volume behemoth I have become intimately close to each scene and moment so much so seeing it come to life in the first official teaser preview was like my Christmas present come … Continue reading →
With so many period C-dramas stuck at the censor approvals for whatever fangled reasons there are, a youth romance is dropping in our laps this week and thank you for Lighter and Princess! Hate the title but really intrigued by what I see. Starring young leads Chen Fei Yu and Zhang Jing Yi, he’s 22 and she’s 23 and they … Continue reading →
It’s rare in C-ent to have a drama get more attention for the director than the stars at the outset and that’s the track record to date for Director Yin Tao, who one after another keeps directing hits. Starring The Glory of the Tang Dynasty in 2017, he’s also directed Under the Power, Love and Redemption, Ancient Love Poetry, and … Continue reading →
This certainly is a helpful chart (see below) and these will be like 80% of the leading ladies we see in C-dramas in the next 3-5 years in regular rotation. With the remaining the past and still current 4 Flowers like Yang Zi, Yang Mi, Dilraba Dilmarut, Liu Shi Shi, Crystal Liu, and Bai Lu who are even more in … Continue reading →
Take this with the usual grain of melon salt but this week a C-ent article is raising the possibility of the long awaited reunion of fan favorite onscreen leads Allen Ren and Tan Song Yun in a new drama. It’s from the writer Mo Bao Fei Bao of the novel behind One and Only and if the leads accept will … Continue reading →
At least the confirmation came swiftly on the heels of the rumored casting for this one, saves a lot of speculation and maybe even potential early in fighting between fandom leads. C-drama Love in Camp (earlier title Accidental Love) is confirmed with leads Dylan Wang and Bai Lu and the earlier approval with 36-episodes has apparently been increased to 40-episodes. … Continue reading →
