Hold my beer, there is A LOT to unpack here. A C-drama remake of hit K-drama Goblin is reportedly in the works, casting calls are out and the production team has been assembled. It’s schedule to air exclusively on Netflix and will be a 36-episode drama with 45-minutes per episode. The PD remains unknown but original screenwriter Kim Eun Sook … Continue reading →
On the list of upcoming potentially disapproved/discouraged C-drama filming requirements does not mention the older woman-younger man (noona-dongsaeng) romance that is popular across many Asian countries drama tropes. Reportedly there are a few in the works currently filming or soon to film for 2023 including Nothing But You (爱情而已 Love Only) starring Zhou Yu Tong and Wu Lei. The drama … Continue reading →
The cancel machine in C-ent is way more methodical and linear than in other Asian entertainments, if an actor or actress is deemed to have committed a transgression of moral turpitude and beyond (i.e. actual crimes) then it’s all the same consequence – complete erasure. C-actor Deng Lun went from flying high to cancelled this past March 2022 after it … Continue reading →
I watched two episodes of Immortal Samsara and bounced, considering I couldn’t even get through Ashes of Love which is objectively a pretty good xianxia and a much better made drama that this. Jin Mi annoyed the shit out of me in AoL and I didn’t have the patience to get to the point she mentally grew up but here … Continue reading →
There is so much headdesking here I don’t know where to start. Let’s just go down the laundry list of future prohibitions a C-ent insider claims is about to be handed down by the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) of China. The first part is the rule, in parenthesis I try to make sense of it. (1) No romance … Continue reading →
As far as scandals in C-ent goes this is on the tamer side but still violates of the Chinese broadcasting tenets of entertainers having moral character. C-actor Xu Kai Cheng was outed by his recently turned ex-girlfriend actress Zhang Tian Ai as having admitted to cheating on her. She released an audio recording where he explained that he would go … Continue reading →
My Love Like the Galaxy babies are back to being actual babies again! Wu Lei looks like all the weight of the world is off his shoulders and his supreme dork self is out in full force and Zhao Lu Si is just the cutest ball of sunshine ever. I finished LLTG two weeks ago as the production released the … Continue reading →
K-drama Discovery of Romance with Eric, Jung Yumi, and Sung Joon is a classic, I haven’t rewatched it but from what I remember of the writing, directing, and acting chemistry it would probably stand the test of time even now. That’s why having a C-drama remake just feels like an uphill climb with a why bother thrown in, but it’s … Continue reading →
Once I’m finished with one crack drama then I’m finished with one crack drama I go on a mad search for another similar one to follow, but it has to appeal to me from leads to visual to story. I’m on a mild C-drama kick and looking around one that looks very interesting to me is The Longest Promise (玉骨遥 … Continue reading →
The long shelved Republican era suspense and romance drama The Hypnosis of Love which is adapted from the novel 南烟斋笔录, literal translation Records of the Southern Mist House, has gotten a Chinese title change to 一曲三笙 which translates to One Song, Three Lives. The drama was filmed in 2016 and ready by 2017 but never got a scheduled airing and … Continue reading →
2021 C-drama season is long over and the only one that I felt the urge to go back and watch now was One and Only and its immediate sequel Forever and Ever. If there is anything else good lemme know and I’ll add to my backlog. But in looking around I happened upon the dumpster fire online reviews and chatter … Continue reading →
Liuliang is a BIG DEAL in C-ent, and liuliang stands for 流量 which is flow volume and in Chinese slang it now means online volume in either search, posts, or data. The top young C-ent stars are frequently referred to a liuliang stars for their dedicated online fan army who play a big role in generating the online volume for … Continue reading →
C-actor Xu Kai is in much need of a hit and if everyone is still talking about 2018 drama Story of Yanxi Palace them yep. Ancient Love Poetry with Zhou Dong Yu was just mediocre, started off bad but did get its legs in the second half. And the currently airing Republican era detective drama Lost in the Kunlun Mountains … Continue reading →
